YOU WOKE UP in the infirmary. Of course, you'd seen your fair share of injuries as a Scout— sporting plenty of scars that told such stories— but it had been a long while since you were bedridden.

Your vision was blurry as you woke up. You could make out the silhouette of a curtain drawn around your head, and sunlight tried to poke itself through in pinpricks, but it hurt to look at. You screwed your eyes shut again.

You heard a few people talking around you, their voices building pressure in your head.

You dozed off again. It felt like only a moment, but you weren't sure whether it had been minutes or hours.

However, you flinched this time, the feeling similar to waking up before falling in a dream.

You weren't sure how long you were out for again. Your mind felt like mush. Your head pounded, and as you tried to sit up, only your left arm was free.

More pain shot through you.

"Oh— shit," you breathed. You glanced down, seeing your right arm in a sling. A nasty bruise crawled up your shoulder and collarbone. A bandage swaddled your thigh, stippled with blood in the shape of a bite mark, and all of the sights made you aware of the pain. You hissed, trying your best to breathe through it.

You quickly decided to lay back down. As you did, the door creaked open.

Someone soon slid the curtains open.

You lifted your head, mentally swearing as you strained to see who had entered. Part of you hoped to see Levi— someone you trusted enough to confide in completely— but the person who entered was far too tall and blond to be him.

Furlan, perhaps?

You tried to blink away the blur, and soon enough, your eyes focused.

Captain Erwin.

"I'm glad you're awake, [Y/N]," he stated. Though his tone was charitable, it was clear he wasn't there only to check up on you.

"Captain," you greeted.

"How are you feeling?" he asked.

"Shitty," you managed. Though you would usually watch your language around a captain, your mind was swimming.

Erwin seemed to handle it with grace. He let out a breath that came off as a chuckle.

"That's understandable," he said.

"What happened?" you asked, letting out a soft, pained groan. Your eyes fluttered shut. Your mind flashed images of the rain and a group of titans (that seemed to appear out of nowhere), and you flinched. A sudden fear tightened around you like a python. You gasped in a slight panic.

"You're safe," said Erwin, catching how you seemed startled. You realized that only a moment had passed. "You've been unconscious since yesterday, and our physician has diagnosed you with a concussion, a broken shoulder, and an incomplete bite on your leg. You won't have any permanent damage other than some scarring."

His words hardly made sense at first, but you gathered them as you could, understanding them more the longer you lingered.

"How long will I be out?" you asked, allowing your eyes to open again.

"I'm not sure— but my guess would be a month or so," Erwin stated. "You'll likely have to go through some physical therapy in addition to that."

You frowned a little.

"Cute," you mused sarcastically— though again, you soon realized who you were talking to. "My apologies, Captain— I'm not feeling like myself right now."
