I gulped nervously while my eyes followed the energetic ticking of the clock. After calling Aria's parents, we decided that we should announce mine and Vale's parents too and have a small family reunion the next day. So, we were waiting for our families to show up any minute. My palms were sweating. I was going to get tangled in a web of lies soon. I had to lie to Aria's parents about their daughter's death. I had to lie to my own parents about how I met my boyfriend. I had to pretend that everything was fine when it clearly wasn't. I had to hide the ugly scar from above my collarbone and the crescent tattoo under a turtleneck dress. I had to do all of these while looking into the eyes of the people that I love the most in this world and pretend. I simply just had to play a role that I despised.
My eyes started to sting and, when Vale clicked her fingers in front of my face, I winced and sighed as a cheap cover for a scream.Vale: Hey! Denise? Are you okay?
Denise: *I faked a smile* Yes.
Vale: *she nodded and turned around* I'll go check the-
Denise: *I caught her wrist and bit my lower lip before talking with a trembling sincerity in my voice* No, actually, I'm not okay. I feel like I'm about to throw up.
Vale: *she hugged me* Don't worry, sweetheart! We can get through it.
Denise: I'm afraid that what we do is wrong.
Vale: It's not. *she grabbed both my hands* We agreed that this is the wisest thing to do.
Denise: *I took a deep breath in and nodded* Right! It is. *I confirmed what she said, trying to convince myself too*
Taehyung: Love? What should I do with the wine bottle?
Vale: Place it on the stand.Vale pointed towards the stand on the kitchen table and walked away. Sitting alone, I embraced myself in the weak rays of the sunset. I was sitting on the soft cushion beneath the window, looking at the empty street. Closing my eyes, I let the orange rays color my pale face. I couldn't catch a wink of sleep last night and the make-up I put on earlier wasn't really doing its job. It's been a lot to take. There were a lot of questions with no answers. I tried my best to find some, but this was the toughest investigation I have ever worked on. I had nothing. To begin with, I had absolutely nothing.
A soft touch on my thigh made me open my eyes slowly. I knew that touch. It was the touch that I've longed for an entire year. The touch that I feared of not feeling ever again. However, that option wasn't available for now. Opening my eyes, a sincere smile spread on my lips as I visualized Yoongi's silhouette sitting in front of me on the window seat. His face looked relaxed and, in the orange light, his eyes burned like fire. A mild fire. One that held my heart so closely to his. Grabbing his hand, I silently asked for his embrace.
Without wasting a single second, his lips touched mine gently and one of his arms embraced me protectively. I let his fire flood my mouth as I found the refuge that I've been desperately looking for, inside his kiss. It was gentle and it managed to keep me together for the moment being. So, I accepted it. I knew I shouldn't have, though.Denise: *parting away, I rested my forest on his* Everything's going to be fine. Right?
The sound of broken glass made me jump and bump my head into Yoongi's. We both whined and, looking into the direction the sound came from, I gasped when I noticed the puddle of red wine on the floor.
