A/N: Sorry for the long wait, you know how life gets.Hope you enjoy the Chapter and make sure to let me know what you think!
I heard the shower run for a third time this morning and seconds later Chris appears. Her appearance brings a smile to my face. "Hey, how's Madi?"
"She was asleep in the closet."
"What?"
"Ya, I was scared for a second that she had run, but I remembered what you said about her first night here. I checked and there she was curled up in the corner."
I drop my head down a little and sigh, "It's like we said last night we just have to give her time and space to feel safe here. Safe around us."
"I know, I just hate that she's had to go through what she has to feel the way that she does."
"I know. Hey, do you think she'll want one cinnamon roll or two?"
She laughs, "Only you can think about food all the time."
"What can I say? I like food."
"I know you do. Back on topic, do you think we should get a few things for her closet to make it cozier for her while she's in there? Let her know that it's ok if she wants to hang out in there."
"She would probably enjoy that. We can go do that before we head out to the field." Just as we finish talking I hear the stairs start to squeak. "Sounds like we can ask her if that's something she's interested in."
*Beep Beep*
I turn and take the rolls out of the oven, 'These smell heavenly, hopefully, my girls will enjoy them. My girls? Has a nice ring to it.'
"Hey, kiddo just in time. They're fresh out of the oven." She smiles at me and licks her lips, 'She must think that they smell good too.'
"Looks like someone's hungry." That comes from Christen in the living room. I don't see what happens next as I'm taking out the cinnamon rolls from the pan, but the next thing that I hear Madi is breathing heavily and Chris is trying to calm her down.
"Hey Madi, you're ok. Can you breathe for me? It's ok. Take some deep breaths, it's ok. You're ok. You're safe. Can you open your eyes for me? That's it. You got this."
It takes her a minute but she is able to get her eyes open and looking at Chris.
"Good, that's good. You did a really good job Madi. I'm proud of you."
"Wh-what-t?"
"I said you did a really good job and that I'm proud of you. Panic attacks are scary and can be hard to come down from, but you did it. You want to have something to eat now?" she nods her head. "Alright, I'll bring you a plate, go ahead and take a seat at the counter."
She comes over and takes a seat while I pass her a plate with two rolls on it. Chris grabs her a cup, "Do you want milk again this morning?" She asks her.
She nods. I don't think she has the energy for words right now. Chris pours her a glass before taking a plate for herself and taking a seat on the stool next to Madi leaving me standing to eat my breakfast on the other side of the counter. When I finish I decide to bring up the closet.
"So Madi, I noticed the first night you curled yourself up in your closet and it seems that you did the same thing last night." She froze. "Hey, it's ok you didn't do anything wrong. Chris and I just wanted to know if you wanted to go back to the store to get anything that would make it cozier? We could get some more blankets and pillows if you wanted. We can get some lights so it's not so dark in there. Anything you want to make it more comfortable."
