Your father Legolas tucks a strand of your blonde hair behind your ear, smiling reassuringly for the twentieth time. Today you'll meet your grandfather, Thranduil, King of Mirkwood, for the first time. Your nerves are exciting, but foreign and you don't quite know how to react. Everything seems much too intense as you wait patiently in the Throne Room with your father, where a few chairs have been set for the occasion. "He wants you to be treated with respect," Legolas had told you, "for you are royalty, after all. He needs not look down on you". Finally, after what seems like ages, the sound of footsteps reaches your ears.
You look over to your father again, and he gives you the same smile he's been giving you all morning, the "I have faith in you but also please don't fuck this up" smile. The King walks in, gliding gracefully towards the center of the room. He settles in the chair across from you, and nods at his son. You look closer at the resemblance between the two.
Your father really is a mirror image of the King, matching his hair and eyes; both of which traits you yourself have inherited. You soon realize the King is staring back at you, with the same analytical look you imagine you had given him. You bow your head. The King laughs at the gesture, a warmth spreading over his face as if a shadow had passed.
"(Y/N), I have heard many great things of you, but being shy was never one of them," he says, the joy palpable in his tone. You feel your cheeks redden, but you can't help but smile. "Then you have listened well," your father replies. "It is hard not to be shy when someone you were told was so strict makes to be a flower," you reply playfully.
For a second, all is quiet. A certain fear blossoms in your stomach that you've not only offended the King, but gotten your father in trouble. But, when you look up, you are met with both Thranduil and your father holding in laughter. Suddenly the room is full of chuckles from your unexpected response. The rest of the day follows suit, with lots of food and drink along with it.
