32 | sad reality

I looked back and forth between Seungmin and Hyunjin. Before looking down and trying to contain my smile. Things were most definitely different between them as they didn't banter at all today.

The tension thickened and I could tell they were avoiding each other's gaze, both having conversations with others in the group. Hyunjin talked to Jeongin and Felix as Seungmin talked with Chan, Changbin, and Minho. I just observed the two because, like the friend I am, I don't want to encourage Hyunjin to try again if Seungmin isn't good for him.

"Why so quiet?" Chan pointed out, everyone looking at me and I sit up straighter as I had been caught.

I swallow harshly "Just thinking about... the test in the next class" I lied. "I forgot to study"

"You don't ever study" I glare at Felix and cross my arms.

"Yes, I do. I just don't boast about it"

Felix looks at Chan and he shrugs "I don't keep up with his life"

"You'll do great Sung" I look to Minho and he sends me a reassuring smile that I didn't really need but am thanks anyways.

The group fell into silence and this is when the hidden tension became apparent as Hyunjin sat in silence and so did Seungmin—everyone noticed.

I clear my throat "So, we should get ice cream after school" I try to force a conversation.

"Yeah sure but the real quick question" Chan turns to Hyunjin "Why are you oddly quiet today?"

Hyunjin was naturally loud. He just had a response to everything but recently—as in, since his 'hook up' with Seungmin he kept to himself and that was the odd part. Now, I can't help the boy out if he didn't make it obvious that something was going on.

"A little tired is all" He responded with a small smile.

"But you told me that you were going to sleep at 9 last night?" Felix asked and Hyunjin froze. I look at him with slightly wide eyes.

No fucking way they did it again?

Hyunjin looks at me from across the table, his eyes screaming to help him. "Guys he said he was tired," I said a bit harshly, moving around the food on my tray.

"He was just wondering, no need to snap at him Jisung" Chan said and I was a bit surprised at how this took a turn.

I ignore him and roll my eyes, feeling myself get irritated for no reason at all. I was only trying to back up Hyunjin from something he wasn't ready to talk about openly and it somehow came back at me.

"He's just acting upset because we slept together" My hand comes to a halt, no longer pushing the food around on my tray.

Slowly looking up everyone took in Seungmin's words. I look at Hyunjin and he looked at Seungmin—hurt in his eyes but he let out a bitter chuckle.

"Ironic coming from the person that came over to my house last night" Hyunjin stood up and walked away from the table.

I stood up and glared at the boy "Your a dick Seungmin and I hope you realize that" I spat and walked after Hyunjin.

Entering the school and walking quickly through the halls until I hear soft sobs in the empty hallway, running up to Hyunjin who sat on the floor, his knees pulled to his chest as his was head was down.

"Hyunjin" I spoke softly, sitting beside him and putting a comforting hand on his knee.

Hyunjin looks at me "I hate him" He said through his tears. "I tried, I tried so hard to put our past behind us but he's no different"

I pout and wipe my best friend's tears "And that's the sad reality of life" I spoke "You can hope someone changes but it's up to them to make that change and so you shouldn't blame yourself in this situation"

"But I let him back in, I slept with him again"

"You couldn't help it. You care and you can tell me that you don't but I know you do Hyunjin and that's okay. You need to know it's okay to feel that way, it's normal"

Hyunjin frowns and looks away, leaning his head back into the lockers and looking up to the bright hall light. "I don't want to anymore" He spoke softly.
