TWs: slight mention of murder
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I slipped to the back of the cafeteria, sitting down at my normal table.
I've sat alone since Ashlyn and Darrin started dating. It didn't really bother me as much as you would think. No one ever talked to me when I sat with Darrin and his friends so being alone wasn't very different. And besides, it gave me time to draw without being bothered.
I pulled out my notebook, tapping my pencil against the table. I still couldn't think of something to draw and I didn't want to draw the ocean again. I didn't understand where my creativity had gone.
I glanced around the room, trying to get inspiration from something, anything. Still, nothing came to mind.
"Hey, mind if i sit?"
I looked up to see a boy with sandy blonde hair and sage green eyes staring down at me. His slightly tanned skin shinned in the midday sunlight as he ran his fingers through his hair.
Alec.
"What did you say?" I asked even though i had heard him perfectly fine. But that couldn't be right, why would someone like him want to sit with me? No, i must have heard him wrong.
Right?
"I asked if i could sit with you," he repeated, gesturing to the chair across from me.
"Sure i guess," I shrugged,"might i ask why you'd want to?"
"Why not? You seem cool," he shrugged, sitting down across from me.
I laughed at those words.
"Well i'm sure you're the only one who believes that," I shook my head, turning back to my notebook.
Pretty much no one in this school liked me. There was a few kids that thought i was okay, but no one really liked me. And there was no way that anyone thought i was cool.
"Why not? You didn't murder anyone did you?" he joked, scooting back slightly.
"Maybe, maybe not, i'm not giving away my secrets," I smiled, glancing up slightly.
"Mysterious, i see," he laughed, raising his eyebrows.
"Yeah, i'm real spooky," i rolled my eyes, trying to stop myself from laughing along with him.
I took a bite out of my apple, drawing a line on my paper.
"Whatcha drawing over there?" Alec asked, tapping is fingers on the table.
"I don't really know," i shrugged, "also, did someone give you sugar or something?"
"What?"
"Your hand," I pointed at his hand that was still tapping on the table.
"Oh sorry, I'm just very fidgety," he said, pulling his hand away.
"Don't apologize," I shook my head, trying to stop myself from smiling as i felt his leg bouncing under the table.
"Sorry, sorry, it's a habit,"
"don't worry about it," I smiled.
We sat in silence for a little bit. I tried to draw but it just ended up being a bunch of lines, nothing really realistic.
"So, why do you sit alone?" Alec asked, running his fingers through his hair.
"I don't know," I lied.
I did know why. Once people had found out i was trans, that was it. No one wanted anything to do with me anymore. And even before that, people only talked to me because i was Darrin's best friend.
No one cared about me anymore. Other than Alec apparently.
"Well apparently everyone in this school is an idiot because you seem like a pretty cool person,"
"Well as i said before, i'm pretty sure you're the only one who thinks that," I shrugged, trying to keep emotion out of my voice.
"Yeah, then everyone is an idiot here," he rolled his eyes.
"Including you?" i joked.
"Oh yeah, i'm the most idiotic of everyone," he laughed.
"Good to know," I smiled, running my fingers through my hair.
Alec opened his mouth to say something when the bell rang, stopping him.
"I'll see you later Chris," he said.
"Yeah, see you later,"
He stood up, flashing a smile at me then walked away.
I shook my head, standing up myself.
I wasn't sure how to feel about him. Was it possible that he would actually want to be my friend?
I shook my head again and walked away.
That's a problem for another day.
