"What?" Beatrix spat after hearing Valerie agree to go to the Everball with Tedros. Sophie and Hester also stand and walk over to them. "You are not taking that underdressed she-wolf instead of me," Beatrix said angrily, Agatha rushing over to help but struggling in her heels. "I'd like you to know that I am very much not underdressed, this is designer," Valerie smirked, pointing to her outfit.
"One of you do something," Beatrix looked to her minions. Hester stopped Anadil and Dot from taking over, as she knew Valerie had it handled. "What a nice dress, Beatrix," Valerie cocked her head with a smile. Beatrix looked at her angrily. "What a shame if it... got a little cold for dress weather," Valerie's sickly sweet voice made Beatrix step back. Her minions huffed but didn't say anything.
"Shhh," Hester quietened Dot and Anadil who were laughing at the Evers, only present to scare them. Hort and all the other Nevers, who had found to respect the Queen of Evil, watched, ready to protect her as they knew she would to them. Hester knew she had promised to make sure Tedros wouldn't ruin Valerie's life, however after saving hers she decided that she would kill Tedros after he broke her heart. The selflessness that Valerie performed showed how much she deserved a chance at a fairy tale life.
Beatrix huffed when the air in the hall lessened to lower temperatures. She looked to Tedros and back to Valerie, rushing forward with perfectly sharp nails, ready to attack her. Valerie's eyes sparkled blue, Tedros' hand squeezing hers reassuringly. However, before Beatrix could get any closer, Hester stepped in the way. Beatrix fell back after running right into her.
"Going somewhere?" Hester widened her eyes with a cheeky smile. Beatrix grunted as Hester pushed her backwards, composing herself as she took in the witch's appearance. All the roommates had been glowed up by Sophie, Hester taking quite the change. She wore baggy balloon shorts, a corset with bloody bandages ruffled around it and ripped tights, all of which complimented her very much evil aesthetic.
Valerie grinned at Hester's new protective nature, standing to the side with a fed-up-looking Tedros. "Down your throat," Beatrix answered, shoving Hester back. Evers stared in shock at Beatrix's actions. "Come on," Hester menaced angrily, grabbing Beatrix and slapping her, all the Evers and Nevers fighting as Tedros and Valerie walked away.
"Wait," Valerie stopped, her eyes shimmering blue as she waved an ice hand, an ice wall slowly dropping from the ceiling. The Evers and Nevers split apart in order to get away from the barrier, the fight stopping. "Maybe you're more Ever than you thought," Tedros grinned as he took her cold hand and pulled her away. "Don't ever say that to me again."
...
A guard had appeared at Valerie's door, insisting she get changed and came with him, leading her to the old library which Valerie used to clean. A group of key individuals of the magical world, sat at the table arguing. Tedros, Agatha and Sophie were already there, everyone's eyes cascading to Valerie as she entered the hall. A cool breeze pushed their hair back as she walked through gracefully, letting their eyes soak her in.
"So this is the gifted young lady everyone has been talking about," An old woman with frizzy green hair insinuated, her smile warm and welcoming. "Depends on how you define gifted," Valerie shrugged cooly, looking to her right where Snow White's bitten apple stood encased in glass.
"Please, please, please," Dovey expressed, gaining the attention of almost everybody. "Dating between Evers and Nevers is strictly against the rules," She explained clearly, Lesso, for once, agreed with her. "Dating?" Valerie asked. "You and Tedros," Dovey explained like it was the most obvious thing. "We're simply just friends," Valerie stated, feeling the blush but not showing it. She looked to Sophie who stared at her with menacing, jealous eyes.
Valerie turned back, not showing mercy for feelings. She turned her head to Agatha who shrugged, and then finally looked at Tedros. He didn't give anything away but his small cheeky smile. "See? Look how they look at each other. How can they not be in love?" Dovey scoffed, gesturing at the two. "Besides the point, Evil and Good do not belong together," She continued her case. The School Master smiled to himself. "It's repulsive," Lesso added.
"Sir, if I may?" Tedros said, pulling his arm from a wolf-guards grip. "I'm responsible for choosing Camelot's next Queen," Tedros explained, his shoulders tensing as if it was a physical burden. "I do not take that decision lightly," He stated, Professor Anemone nodding with understanding.
"I'm friends with Valerie because she is both Good and Evil. She prefers the Evil lifestyle but she has Good in her heart. She is selfless - do you remember her wish to forgive the failing students, or when she saved Hester from the bee attack in the tower? She doesn't want to believe it but I've seen the Good in her," Tedros explained, "She helps me with this sort of advice, of who deserves to be Queen of Camelot and what qualities I should be looking for. I enjoy spending my time with Valerie and if that is wrong then we are truly not good at all. Good is about giving people chances," He finished.
Valerie clapped slowly to break the awkward silence. "Good monologue, Pendragon," She rolled her eyes, the whole conversation making her feel slightly uncomfortable. "And who is to say who I can and cannot talk to, I have like.. basic human rights, no?" She looked at them astonished. "Oh and also, like, we're children. So why are you guys even putting yourself into the business of our relationship?"
"Because, Miss Grayskull, your relationship nearly tore down our mixed hall this morning," Dovey grit her teeth. "Sounds like a problem of not being able to control your students to me, Professor Dovey," Grayskull winked. Her breath was still smoky in the air as she breathed out.
"I don't believe it," Sophie suddenly interrupted, crossing her arms. Valerie looked at her with a neutral expression on her face. She was jealous and angry that Tedros had chosen someone completely uninterested in him, rather than her, who was putting in so much effort.
"Nothing can keep true love apart," Agatha decided suddenly, looking shocked at her own words. "Isn't that like the first rule of fairy tales?"
"This isn't love," Valerie denied, the recognisable feeling of panic welling in her stomach. She didn't know if she was ready to come to terms with feeling something for someone. Something that wasn't hate or fury or despise. "If it is true love," The School Master butted in, everyone going silent, "Such a thing would certainly be momentous," He explained with a comforting smile. Valerie didn't reciprocate it, her feelings trodden on by Dovey's patronising laugh.
"There is only one way to be sure," The School Master explained. "A Trial by Tale!" He announced, Valerie's eyes bulging. "What? No!" Dovey laughed as if the prospect was ridiculous. "I don't think that is a good idea," Valerie shook her head, picking at the skin around her thumbs anxiously.
"Hey," Tedros hummed, taking her hand to stop her from harming herself, "We've got this," He guaranteed, practically admitting that he did feel things for her - or he would've denied it. "I accept," He voiced loudly, and everyone silenced. "What?" Valerie turned to him and he looked at her. He bent down and whispered in her ear "Don't worry, love, I feel it too."
