Sophie stood in the middle of the open doors, her head covered by a black veil. The Everstudents ran to the sides of the hall, pushing Tedros and Valerie to the front as they didn't move. The music stopped as it was overpowered by the thrums of Sophie's blood magic. She strutted over the black and white tiles toward Valerie and Tedros, Agatha running down the balcony steps to meet them. Three against one.
Tedros looked to Valerie who tried to talk to him but he held his hand up, the other resting on Excalibur. Valerie's eyes glowed blue, to show that she would back him until the end. He walked towards Sophie, meeting her in the centre of the dance floor. Evers held their hands up to their mouths in fear.
"Sophie, what happened to you?" Agatha questioned, as her friend unveiled herself. Valerie slowly covered her mouth in shock, Tedros stepping in front of her protectively. Sophie had stringy grey hair, and her body was wrinkly and old. Her nose was larger and she had obtained more warts - the look of stereotypical Evil.
"My God," Tedros whispered as he looked at her. "Don't worry Teddy," Sophie cocked her head with a smile, "Should clear up by tomorrow," She gestured towards her face whilst she walked towards him. "Try to look past it and not ruin our evening," She laughed, Valerie staring at the source of Evilness when she grabbed Tedros' hand from behind his back.
"The Evers Ball," Sophie smiled happily, spinning around and dancing on her own. Every other student had stopped dancing, Everboys standing in front of their frightened Princesses. "Ah!" Sophie inhaled, glaring at Beatrix who stood near the back of the ballroom in a frilly pink dress. "Here I am."
"You're taking me remember," Sophie looked to Tedros who stepped back lightly. "I said that to you months ago when you were flirting with me," Tedros guiltily confessed, looking at her regretfully. He tightened his grip on Valerie's hand. Valerie swallowed at the confession, but she didn't let go of his hand.
Sophie's eyes slipped to the hand of Valerie's which was on view to her, dropped by her side. Magic swirled around it, unable to hide the ruby ring of Tedros' which he had slipped on her hand when he had admitted his feelings for her. "You promised," Sophie spoke angrily, eyeing the ring.
Agatha stepped forward, her arm gripped by Valerie. Agatha let the chill run up her skin. "Oh look, Rafal's other love, trying to protect the Good," Sophie smirked as she looked at Valerie. Tedros felt her squeezing his hand tightly, secretly telling him that she was lying.
"Rafal wants me on his side but I'd rather die than be like you," Valerie admitted, slowly letting go of Agatha's arm. "Sophie, please," Agatha cried again, shut down by Sophie. "Quiet Aggie, the protagonists are speaking," She smiled. "Trust me, your story won't be written if you erase the magic to write it," Valerie sneered, her cold villainy having to come out to play.
She couldn't be the sweet mixture of Good and Evil that Tedros fell in love with if they were to win this. She needed to be as cruel and merciless as her opponents.
Sophie was no longer speaking to Valerie but the Ice Witch of Narnia, daughter of the Beast, the Villain of the generation. "I'll write my own story," Sophie spat. Valerie raised her head in recognition, a small smile playing on her lips. She'd pushed one of Sophie's buttons. The girl was afraid that she was doing all of this just to be forgotten.
"I'm still your date, right?" Sophie got close to Tedros, the boy not backing down as towered over her. "You going back on your promise?" She hummed, trailing a charred finger across his face. He was now clenching Valerie's hand so hard she thought her fingers might snap.
"Bad things happen when the Good break their promises," Sophie whispered, Tedros snapping when he grabbed Sophie's hand and pulled her hand away from his. "There was no promise," He said to her clearly, everyone holding their breath as they watched the two. "You disintegrated that promise the moment you fell for Rafal. I'm here with Valerie," He told her simply.
Sophie looked at her angrily, Valerie putting her hands out. "Sophie, please relax," Agatha stepped in front of Valerie to try and calm her friend. "So you're picking her over me?" Sophie asked, stepping forward, fury making her blood magic thrum even louder. "No, I'm not," Agatha expressed calmly, also putting her hands out in surrender. "Liar," Sophie growled.
She flicked her wrist, blood magic appearing in her hand. All the Everboys unsheathed their swords, pushing the girls to the back of the room. Screams and screeches filled the ballroom. Valerie was hidden by Tedros' muscular frame but she no longer had the capacity to be afraid.
Sophie laughed, pointing at the swords of three boys lined up. They hissed when their flesh sizzled, Sophie making their swords turn piping hot. They all groaned, dropping their swords. "You know, I think I'm really getting the hang of this," Sophie laughed.
"Valerie?" Sophie turned with a smile, Valerie stepped in front of Tedros, her dress fluttering dramatically. It glinted in the sunlight, making her look angelic and ethereal. "I was going to let you be on the right side, fight with Evil, but now that you've stolen my date and my best friend. It seems that I'll consider you Good," Sophie grinned, flipping the crimson magic around her hand before shooting it at Valerie.
For a second there was silence, nothing happened before the red magic which swirled slowly around Valerie dissipated into the air. "How-" Sophie stepped back in anger. Valerie gasped, pulling her dress up to reveal her golden dagger attached to a garment around her thigh. The gems which Bilious had given her were pulsating blue magic around her in some sort of blue circle.
"Lapidibus Praesidium," Tedros whispered in shock. The gems of protection. "How did you get them?" Valerie didn't have time to answer before Sophie balled up another energy orb of magic.
"Sophie stop," Agatha walked towards her, "Whatever's happened, I can help you," Agatha offered with the kindness of her heart. Sophie blew out the candle of magic on her finger. "She's past the point of saving," Tedros muttered lightly. "I'm your friend," Agatha honestly said, reaching out for Sophie.
"No, Agatha, you're my nemesis," Sophie ground her teeth, getting in Agatha's face. "Valerie would be too if it weren't for Rafal's infatuation with her," Sophie spat near Valerie's feet. "And that means," Sophie turned back to Agatha, "That our story can't end until one of us is destroyed," She smiled, revealing her broken teeth.
"You will have no story if tonight ends the way you want it to," Valerie spat back with words she knew would hurt, watching gleefully as Sophie's eyes hardened. Sophie sent a ball of blood magic at Valerie quickly, stamping her feet like a child as it was absorbed by the blue ball of protection, dissolving into the air again.
"Sophie," Agatha cried sadly when she looked at her best friend, verging on tears. Sophie said nothing, pulling her veil down dramatically and leaving the hall, her magic thrumming malevolently as she pulled the doors shut.
