Valerie paced around the room with her head racing as her roommates headed out for breakfast. She wanted to listen to Rafal, remember Tedros' horrible words but all she could think of was how easy it was with him. Her head scrambled for a simple explanation. But the more she wanted to hate his twinkling eyes and fluffy brown hair, the more deeply she felt for him. Her heart hammered in her chest and all she wanted to do with scream.
She took vantage of what she thought, screaming an earth-shattering screech filled with all of her confusing emotions. She, simultaneously, blasted the wall with her powers, ice cascading away from the source of her power on the wall. Like a cracked mirror. Snowflakes dropped around her as she forced her to contain her powers.
"God, why am I like this? Why do I have to hold this in?" She collapsed on the stairs up to the beds, her head in her hands. After a moment of her head between her knees, she pushed herself up and walked to the balcony, putting her shoulders on the stone. Her breath was still visibly cold, however, she had changed into normal clothes, not the dramatic, uncomfortable clothes she'd forced herself into to make an impression.
"Honey, are you okay?" Her mother's voice echoed lightly in her ear. Valerie turned quietly, the bright white portal making her pupils restricted. "Mother," Valerie sighed lightly, a gentle smile gracing her face. "What is wrong, baby?" Jadis asked, knowing her daughter too well.
"I- I just have all this.. power, rage- I don't know what it is. And I just want to let it out. And there's this boy-" She glared at her mother's facial expression. "This boy?" Jadis edged. "This boy. He's an Ever which makes me want to hate him. And he said horrible things about me. But we got on, and he apologised, and he doesn't hold anything against me, and I really like him. More than I've really liked anyone else here," Valerie looked to her mother who stared through the portal thoughtfully. A snake made of ice curled around in her hair softly.
"I know how it feels to fall for Good. It feels easy, right? And it is. That's what love feels like. And sometimes, such as the case of your father and me, it doesn't work. But fairy tales don't happen because people don't try," Jadis smiled softly, her tone warmer than usual. She was stern but a wise woman. She knew when her daughter needed comfort.
"Give it a go. What is the worst that can happen?" Jadis smiled, her white lips turning even paler. "Thanks, Mum. I needed that," Valerie raked her hands through her platinum hair with stress. "Of course, darling. Anything else on your mind?" She asked, her hands brushing her dreadlocks. "Nothing. I'm just tired of holding everything in, I'm tired of thinking about the consequences of my actions. I'm just... tired," Valerie mumbled, smiling to her mother before closing the portal from her end.
"Valerie?" Dot queried, walking about to see said girl leaning on the edge of the balcony. She had been higher on Valerie's good list ever since she had helped her from the burning pile of wood in Lesso's lesson. "You alright?" Dot asked, munching on Sophie's hairbrush which she had turned into chocolate. "Mhmm, just hungry," Valerie put on her best fake smile and walked to the Hall with Dot.
