Jin tried his hardest not to show that he could finally understand Church. It took a while for his warlock side to finally click in and stop overpowering his old life, but when it did, it was like a switch was flipped, and he could finally understand everything that damn cat was saying. But he couldn't let him know, not yet. It was too funny hearing all the shit Church would say, thinking that Jin was none the wiser.
Magnus sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose, "Duly noted, Church; I will ensure the stupid warlock no longer touches your stomach unless you explicitly ask for it. Is there anything else?"
Church glared at Jin, who did his best to look confused and feel like he was waiting on Magnus to translate. He turned back to Mangus, "Something is up with him; I just don't know what yet. But I'll figure it out, and until then, I'll keep peeing on his shoes." With that, the damn cat went off with his tail all poufed out and twitching in the air.
Magnus barked out a laugh as he looked at Jin, "he's such a shit, I swear to God."
"I knew he was peeing in my shoes, but I didn't think it was because I was petting his belly that he very clearly asks to be petted, by the way."
"Are you going to tell them that you understand him?"
Jin shook his head quickly, "no, I love their little conversations. It's adorable. Besides, I think Church enjoys Tavi translating for him and hearing the filtered version." He smiled happily, "It makes them happy, so it makes me happy."
Magnus nodded, "I'm sorry to come here unannounced, but I needed to talk to you without Tavi here."
"Oh?"
"You two were never told this, but he came to me when we knew that you would pass on. Namjoon, he wanted to return, and when he did, they wanted to find you. Namjoon just turned 20, and while he doesn't remember his past life as much as you did, your reason to return was different from his. He does remember a Jin who was his other half and that he had the world's most ridiculous laugh."
Jin's heart stopped beating. His parabatai was back and looking for him even if he didn't know who he was. "Can I see him, please?" His heart was beating so fast. His Joon, his Namjoon was back.
"You can, and I'll have you know, he's a warlock. So you won't have to lose him again, and he won't have to lose you either."
The younger warlock fell to a crouch as he cried into his hands. This was more than he could handle at the moment, but he was so happy. Joon was back and like him. This must have been what Tavi felt like when she found out that Jin came back immediately because, basically, Joon did the same exact thing. "I'm not even sure what to say at this point."
"Don't worry about it; Tavi was also at a bit of a loss. She cursed. I apologized for putting her through this quickly, but she was just as emotional. That's why I wanted to talk to you alone. Give yourself time to figure out what you want to do about it."
"I have to see him; he's my par.." His voice broke.
Mangus took pity on the younger warlock, "I know. Trust me. I might not have been a shadowhunter, but I know what it's like to see your friends die and see their faces in others. He doesn't look the same, but just like when Tavi looks at you, you'll see him for what he was, not who he is now."
"Can we go now?"
"We can."
Jin had never been so nervous in his life. When he met Tavi, he wasn't expecting to quite literally run into her that day in LA. He was just trying to work on his English at the LA Institute when he crashed into the prettiest woman he'd ever seen, and then they touched. His memories crashed into him like a tidal wave, and he remembered everything.
"Will it be the same, like when I saw Tavi? Will he remember everything?"
Magnus nodded quickly, "Yes, once you guys touch in some way, he will remember everything just like you did when you held Tavi's hand." He stood up and brushed the imaginary dirt off his pants, "he's waiting at my house if you'd like to go now."
"What did you tell him?"
"Nothing. He's a young warlock, and I'm the High Warlock of New York. If he wants to live in my terrority, then he has to come to me and present himself." He waved his arms a bit, and a portal appeared. "Are you ready?"
"Would you think less of me if I said no?"
The older warlock chuckled a bit, "No. There's a new Lightwood son that was born, and according to everyone who's seen him, he looks just like this Herondale I used to know." His smile was fond and a little sad. "It seems I can never get away from those two families."
They stepped through the portal, and a young man stood. "I know you, but I don't. You look a little different." He shook his head like he was trying to fight his brain.
Jin held his hand, "I'm Jin, and you are?"
As soon as their hands met, Jin saw Joon, his Joon with the cutest dimples and the most caring leader and parabatai he'd ever known. "Hyung, Jin-Hyung is it really you?"
"It is; I've missed you, Joonie. You have no idea how much."
They wrapped their arms around each other and cried into each other's necks, "I can't believe I found you again."
"And you'll never lose me again; I can't wait to bring you home to Tavi."
Joon gasped, "You found her again? You have Tavi back?"
"I do. Church as well." The younger one groaned, which made the other two chuckle.
"I'll open a portal and let you two go see Tavi and Church." And with a wink, they were back in Jin and Tavi's apartment, listening to Church yell meow at them.
