Tavi woke up from a strange dream, a dream with a dark-haired boy with dark eyes. He was smiling and laughing at her, and he was so happy, which made her happy. There was also a grey cat with orange eyes. She missed them both dearly, but she didn't know who they were or how she knew them.
Breakfast was the same as always; she ate silently while he talked. He gave her the blue drink again, and then they were off. When they were walking, she saw something out of the corner of hers, "Sir, can you give me just a second? I saw something."
He looked impatient, but she was his bodyguard, and she had proven that she knew what she was doing. When she walked into the alley, she had her staff at the ready, but she didn't need it. There, sitting on a crate, was the cat from her dreams. "Tavi, do you remember me?"
She gasped, "You can talk?"
"I can, but you'd understand me even if I couldn't. You are my person."
"I'm sorry. I know you, but my brain doesn't remember."
"It's okay; I'll be there when you get home."
"Octavia, what's taking so long?"
"I have to go; see you tonight." She walked out of the alley and twirled her staff before putting it back in the harness. "Sorry, Sir, false alarm. But after the other day, it's better to be safe than sorry."
That seemed to appease him, and he started walking again. When they got to the building, there were two men standing there, one grumpy one with dark hair and one amazingly epic-looking guy. He was wearing makeup and nail polish. Tavi knew instantly that they would be the best of friends.
"Ah, Consul, to what do we owe the pleasure of your visit?"
The grumpy one sort of frowned at Trueblood, "Well, I haven't been since you guys opened the city back up. I thought it was time to remind people who was in charge."
Trueblood hated this guy, which means Tavi likes him right now.
'Tavi, can you hear me?' Her eyes snapped to the fun one, 'Don't say anything, just nod your head; they can't hear me, only you.' She nodded her head, 'perfect. Do you remember me?' She nodded no quickly. 'I'm not positive, but I believe he's tampering with your memory. Does he make you drink anything strange-looking?' Ah, the blue drink he gives her daily; she nodded yes. 'Can you not drink it?' She didn't need to nod; he could tell by her face.
'He watches you drink it, doesn't he?' He sure as hell does. 'Has Church found you yet?' She cocked her head to the side a bit; who the hell is Church? 'The cat, he's grey with orange eyes and can speak.' Oh yes, she nodded yes. 'He'll fill you in more. We have to go for now, but we'll be back. Don't trust Trueblood.' Obviously.
"Alec, I hate to call your meeting short. But the babysitter has obligations, remember?"
"Ah, you are right. I'll see you soon, Councilman." And then they were off.
Tavi spent the day in more boring ass meetings standing behind him. She told him she would head to bed early when they got home. He was concerned, but she told him it was just the time of the month. That seemed to appease him. When she got to her room, Church was there waiting for her. "Hi, pretty boy."
He rubbed against her, "I missed you, Tavi, so much."
"I missed you too; now, can you tell me what the hell is happening?"
"A lot; Jin has been a wreck since you left."
"Jin, who is Jin?"
Church cocked his head to the side, "They did a number on you, didn't they? Jin is your fiance, that chopstick in your hair, the staff on your back, and the two you have in your boots, well he had those made for you. To keep you safe. He's also the reason you can speak and understand Korean. Look at your hand; do you see that mark? If you hold his hand, it forms a heart. You guys love each other so much that he swore he'd find you in each lifetime."
