Returning from their trip Isla and Leah found themselves back in their pre-Euros routine which suited them both. Most nights were spent either watching Netflix or relaxing in the hot tub.
Leah had taken some more time off before returning to training, though she still dropped Isla off and picked her back up every day. She'd been cleared to drive as her car was automatic but Leah insisted on driving her since it was forcing her to get up in the morning. Really she missed the car journey to and from training with Isla. Every journey with Isla turned into a musical performance even a 5 minute trip to Tesco. She actually wasn't too bad at singing, neither of them were. The team often joking they should audition for X Factor.
Leah had a lot of interviews and appearances in the days after they returned home. They hype of the Euros win certainly hadn't died down. She knew how important it was to keep the interest in women's football high. She appeared on radio, magazine interviews, social media videos. Every single day was another appearance, another interview. She didn't sign up for this, she was a footballer not a celebrity. Of course, she'd had plenty of media training over the years but nothing prepares you for not being able to go to the shops without being asked for an autograph. It was exhausting. All she wanted to do was be Leah. Not the Euros winning Captain, not the poster girl of women's football. Simply Leah. She'd spend every second she could with close friends and family to stop her going insane.
Isla had been training 6 days a week, carrying on with coaching at the academy. She was keeping herself busy, she wanted to be back on the pitch with the girls but she knew she had to take it easy this time. Today was the last training session before they flew to Germany for the final part of their pre season training. The club sponsor Adidas had invited them to train at their facilities in Germany. It would be a great opportunity for the whole team to bond after being separated over the summer. But first Isla knew she'd have to do the thing she was dreading...chat to Emile. She had been avoiding him since she returned from Spain. She didn't want to cause an atmosphere and only Kim knew about them so she really needed to sort things out before it was obvious.
They met in a cafe 5 minutes from Isla's house. Initially Emile had suggested having the chat at his house but Isla wanted to meet somewhere neutral. The cafe being perfect since it was close enough she could walk and she knew they'd be less likely to be seen.
Arriving at the cafe she ordered a drink while waiting, an Instagram worthy green smoothie. She quickly took a photo of that to post later. Emile arrived shortly after ordering the same.

So I guess I should start off by apologising. Things have been a bit hectic and my heads been a bit of a mess since (motioning towards the crutches and her knee)Emile
Yeah I mean it was a pretty dramatic exit for someone on crutches (smirking) I was worried about you. I called, text, even came round to check on youIsla
Hmmm yeah. I had to get away, sorry about that I should've replied. I just didn't really know what to say. Thanks for the flowers, they were dead by the time I came home so I didn't see them but Sally next door said they brightened up her kitchenEmile
I would've got you some today but wasn't sure if you were gonna throw them at meIsla
(Chocking on her drink) do you really think I'm that much of a bitch?Emile
Haha no but you have ignored me for 3 weeksIsla
I was in a different country for 1 of those weeks, I ignored everyoneEmile
Didn't stop you posting pics in the sun though?Isla
I was on holiday, that's what people do on holiday. What'd you think I was gonna do, sit around on my own feeling sorry for myself?Emile
You didn't even tell me you'd left the countryIsla
Sorry I'll make sure to run my plans past you next time (rolling her eyes sarcastically) do you want me to share my entire calendar with you and you can see what I'm doing all the timeEmile
No Isla, that's not what I meant. I just... I don't know. Look I like you, you know that. I want to take you out, treat you like a queen. I want to tell everyone about usIsla couldn't look at him. If there was an Olympic medal for making situations awakened, Isla would win gold. How did she get into this situation? Us? There is no us she thought. They weren't together, she'd made that clear early on. But the what was this? Friends with benefits? They were t exactly friends before. Situationship? Is that what this is?? She knew there was no easy way to do this. Fucking hell Isla.
Isla
No, you don't. You want someone who'll appreciate all that, someone who'll be there at all your games, someone who'll love you and be the best girlfriend. That's not me. I'm sorry if I led you on but this (pointing between them) would never work. I don't have time for a relationship, I've got a world cup to qualify for and you've got one to winAs she stood up to leave so did he wrapping her in a final hug. Wanting to get out of there as quickly as possible she pulled away and as she looked up she was met with a pair of blue eyes she knew very well. Darting between the pair of them, trying to work out what they'd witnessed here. The feeling of nausea rose from the pit of her stomach at the sight.

Who do you think has seen them?
