Isla's POV

I feel like I've been asleep for a while but I'm still exhausted. I know this isn't my room and this is definitely not my bed, it's too small.  Holy shit my stomach is sore.

"Hi Isla, I'm Maureen. I spoke to you earlier. Do you remember?"

"No, where am I? This isn't my bed. Is this your house?"

"No love, you're in the hospital. I'll get the doctor to explain everything to you"

My new friend Maureen left, she seems nice.  It wasn't long before the door opened again and my eyes went straight to the only person I needed at the moment. There she is, my Leah, she looks like she's going to punch someone, as usual. She really needs to sort that, I'll tell her that later.  She's got such a pretty smile, she should smile more. And Amanda my wee English mammy. And a random man who's asking me how I am. He must be the doctor that Maureen spoke about. Right focus Isla, this is probably important.

"Miss Thomson, how're you feeling?" the doctor asked

"Yeah good, a bit sore, a bit gassy" understatement of the year, I feel like I'm going to explode.

"That's understandable, we've got plenty of pain relief for you so don't worry about that. Do you know why you're here?"

Hmmm, pretty sure I don't know my own birthday right now.

"Nope."

"Can you remember anything?" he asked

Oh god, think Isla.

"I had cramp so I went to my locker for a tampon, but I didn't have any so I took one from yours, sorry Le" she looked up as I spoke "I was feeling a bit light headed so I knew I needed some chocolate to perk me up. That's it. I don't know what happened after that"

"Luckily one of your teammates found you when they did. Unfortunately, the embryo had implanted itself within your fallopian tube instead of the uterus, unfortunately as the pregnancy has progressed this has caused your fallopian tube to rupture. This explains the pain you've described.  We have successfully removed the right fallopian tube containing the embryo along with some endometrial tissue. We'll monitor you over night and make a decision on when you can go home with support"

Well that made no sense at all. I can hear words but none of them make sense. Cmon Isla, this would be a really good time to understand. Wait this is Friday, we're playing tomorrow. I can't be here, I need to go home.

"So when can I go home? I need an early night for tomorrow's game"

"Miss Thomson, you've had major surgery, you won't be able to participate in any exercise until your wounds have healed. At which point you'll have a specialist who will work with you to assess your recovery and when you can return to playing. There is also the psychological side of what you've been through, you may find you need more time before your in the right place"

No, I need to be there. I'm captain. Leah can't step in she's only just back in training. Katie will have to step up. She struggles to get through a game without getting a card.

What does this man not understand? I've got things to do. I don't even try to control the tears, I'm not even embarrassed by the scene I'm making either. I can feel arms holding me as I open my eyes it's red hair I see, not blonde. Amanda, but where is Leah?

Amanda held me until I calmed down. Sitting at the side of my bed, holding my hand. The words from earlier are now starting to make a bit of  sense.

"Did he say Leah's pregnant?" I asked Amanda
