39. Broken Hearts

Isla's POV

Hearing I could finally go home was the best news I've heard in days. Only one problem, I'm not allowed home until I pee. That wouldn't usually be a problem, ask the team. They're always joking I've got the bladder of a 90 year old. I've been known to go to the toilet 2 or 3 times before kick off then sprint down the tunnel at half time to go again. I've had to go off the pitch mid game in the past too.

I will go home today, so one litre of apple juice later and I know it's only a matter of time. Of course that time comes just as Leah and I had a bit of a heart to heart. We cleared the air in that she now knows I wasn't hiding this from her. I genuinely didn't know I was pregnant.

She helped me once I'd managed to get to the bathroom connected to my room. A task that should not be as difficult as it was. After she'd made fun of my hospital pants, it was a long wait before I was allowed to leave with final checks being completed. Lots of poking and prodding from the nurses and I was finally on my way home.

Later that night, we watched our game on tv. The first half was quiet, no goals or chances from either team. As Leah left to get some half time snacks and drinks I lifted my phone. Instinctively I go straight to social media, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok. I'm on them all. Only now I've realised I haven't posted anything in nearly 2 days, and my DMs are starting to fill up along with my own texts and WhatsApp. I'll answer them later when I've had time to think about what I'm going to say.

As I scroll through Instagram I see the media team have posted our starting 11 for tonight:

Isla's clearly unhappy at Arsenal. She looks like she'd been crying in the last training video. All the recent photos you can see how sad she is. My bets on her retiring

Would make sense she looks exhausted. She's had no break, spent summer injured then knocked out of WC playoffs

Let's be realistic she's one of the oldest in the team, has knee injuries at least once a season and missed out on World Cup. Yet still thinks she can play like a 20 yo.

She needs to realise it's time to retire, let Leah captain the team

Last I heard was that she was in the hospital, hope it's nothing serious and she has a fast recovery! We need our skipper back.
