Gonna try to skip school tomorrow- if I do, there'll be another updateee
—————————————Ow.
My head is pounding and my foot is throbbing and I'm sticky and uncomfortable and who the hell positioned me like this anyways?
I'm lying on my back with at least five pillows under my head and another five under my foot, croissant-core. My entire body feels like it's made of lead, so the best I can do is crack open my eyes a little to stare at the crusty ceiling above.
"I didn't die." I croak, for anyone who's around to hear it.
To the best of my blurry vision, I'm lying in an apartment back at the beach with a few people sitting in some sort of ritualistic circle at the foot of my bed. Are they casting demons into me?
"AIKA YOU'RE AWAKE!" I recognise Kuina's excited voice as she runs over and wraps her arms around me.
I let out a weak laugh, wrapping my arms around her bare torso and I manage a big smile, then grimace as a fresh wave of pain wracks over my face from my nose. I better not have broken it. Kuina straightens up and hands me some water. I thank her, then down the whole thing in one go.
"How long was I-"
"Two days." Chishiya cuts over me shortly.
I frown at his tone, the crane my neck to see him sitting on a chair beside my bed. His eyes are a little more sunken than last time I saw him, with dark shadows making him look like a raccoon. He's also paler than usual, and sounds exhausted.
"I'll go get Niragi."
"LAST BOSS I THOUGHT I'D NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN," I yell, voice cracking.
He does a little Elmo giggle which is music to my ears as he waddles out the door, blade trailing behind him.
I sigh and allow my neck muscles to relax again as Kuina strokes through my hair, untangling it. Then I sense an reproachful glare boring into my face.
"What is it?" I groan at Chishiya, keeping my eyes closed.
"Do I not get a thank you for saving your life?" He mutters in annoyance.
"What happened?" I ask Kuina in Spanish.
"Niragi came quickly back here on the verge of a meltdown and threatening to shoot anyone who came within a meter distance of you - who he was carrying. Oh wait never mind, he did shoot someone." At my startled reaction, she hurries to continue, "it's ok, they're ok. But at first I thought you were dead, you were practically blue and dangling in his arms." She laughed, shaking her head, "then Chishiya basically snatched you away, and healed you."
"Ahh," I say, still in Spanish so Chishiya doesn't understand, "so what do we think? Chishiya gets an apology? Or no?"
Kuina grins, "up to you."
"What are you grandmas gossiping about?" Chishiya says in annoyance.
"Nothing in particular." I say with a smile.
He stares at me, unblinking, "I only saved you for Kuina, by the way. If I'd let you die, she would have never forgiven me."
I can feel my anger starting to build. Kuina starts to protest against Chishiya.
"Ok, you self entitled rat." I snipe back at him.
He raises an eyebrow and swiftly gets up, exiting the room and slamming the door behind him.
Great. Now I feel bad. I'll go see him later, to apologise.Kuina rolls her eyes, "always the drama king."
I just close my eyes again, "thanks Kuina." I really do mean it, too. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be alive.
A gnawing feeling inside me grows, brought to light again now I don't have to worry about my life being in danger. It grows more and more persistent until finally I remember. The plan.
"Kuina, when are we going to-" I'm cut off by the sound of the door opening.
I open my eyes and Kuina scrambles off the bed, to my displeasure. Niragi is standing there in the doorway, staring at me with last boss hunched behind him.
"Well don't just stand there, you NPC." I say.
Niragi slowly walks in, gun nowhere to be seen - much to my surprise, and shoots Kuina a glare, to which she averts her eyes and speed walks out of here. Last boss winks at me then closes the door.
I look back to Niragi and realise my mouth is completely dry again, though I just chugged a glass of water. Only now do I realise the vulnerability of my position. My mind is filled with thoughts so dirty I blush at myself.
I need some holy water.
Niragi still isn't smiling. It's a little unnerving actually. He's just advancing slowly, like a cat deciding how to torture its prey before giving it the satisfaction of death.
I swallow really hard as he stands by the side of the bed, and am about to say something, when Niragi swiftly raises his hand and slaps me across the face.
My mouth drops open in shock as my ears ring and cheek tingles in pain. A trickle of blood runs down into my mouth and out down my chin from my nose.
He then puts an arm either side of my face, pushing down any snarky comment I was going to make as my brain scrambles. His dark eyes clash with my shocked ones. I wish the bed would just swallow me up.
"You're such a pain, you know that, right?" He hisses.
"I Uhm... you-" I stutter, internally screaming at the mess Niragi has me in.
He rolls his eyes, standing back up, then pausing by the door as if he wants to say something else. I finally manage to collect myself a little, scraping together the scraps of dignity I have left.
"There aren't enough middle fingers in the world to express my feelings for you, Niragi." I say to him, after finally managing to pull my goddam self together. Bipolar bitch.
He just scoffs, and opens the door.
"What? No goodbye kiss?" I call after him sarcastically.
He looks back at me briefly, eyes narrowed until he realises I'm joking, then he stalks out the door and slams it behind him. I just sigh and lay back, relaxing my idiotically flustered self and wondering what the fuck I'm going to do about that man.
