It's as if the breath is knocked out of me.

My mind is a clusterfuck of shitty shit shits. Niragi is my only lifeline, and I cling to the back of his shirt.

Aguni finally shows some emotion, taking the cards from her hands and rifling through them.

"We found them scattered over a bed in room 16A," the girl says, smirking slightly.

Aguni pauses, then looks across the room at us, "Isn't that the wing you two were searching?"

"Yes, sorry Boss, we must've missed it." Niragi replies.

"But they were right there, how could you have not seen them?" The girl pouts, and I curl my lip. Pick me. She may as well bend over and kiss Niragi's shoes shouting 'pick me choose me love me'.

"Saiko, stay out of this you bitch." Niragi snarls.

"Unless, you were... preoccupied?" Saiko bats her eyes, and I want to smash her face in the ground. Is she another one of Niragi's hoes? Am I? Oh dear.

Mira, An, Last Boss, Chishiya and Aguni all turn to face us, but Tatta is too busy staring out the window, and Kuzuryu couldn't care less. I can feel heat starting to tint my face.

"We didn't fully check the rooms, so sorry about that, but why don't you mind your business Saiko, because by the sounds of it, you're the one who conveniently found them. Isn't that a little suspicious?" I rant, not knowing where the words came from, but grateful because they took the attention off me and Niragi.

His arm around me definitely didn't help the whole 'I'm an innocent young girl, why would you accuse me of something as scandalous as that' act, but no one properly noticed, so it's fine.

As Aguni is questioning that bitch Saiko, Niragi's fingers dig in sharply to my arm. I have to bite back the curse word I was about to say.

"Stop, you're hurting me," I whisper as quiet as I can.

Niragi doesn't even look at me, just digs them in again, and I whimper a little.

"As my first act as leader, I'll excuse this just the once. No follow ups will be made, but if anyone tries to take the cards again, they'll be executed. Remember not to disclose any information about hatter to anyone, it would send people into a state of panic. Dismissed." Aguni says his entire speech in a monotone voice, then turns and leaves, everyone following.

Only An, me Chishiya and Niragi linger behind, and once the double doors are closed, An approaches me before Chishiya can.

"Aika can we talk?" An says, and I nod, a little surprised.

"Yeah, of course, are you good?"

"Well," she starts, but is interrupted by Chishiya.

"Save your gossiping for later, go back to your dissection lab, An." He says sharply.

"Chishiya-" I gasp at his rudeness.

An turns and leaves, side-eying Chishiya on her way out the double doors, which slam surprisingly loudly, making me jump.

"I'm sorry." I say.

"Sure, just stay away from Kuina and I. We were perfectly fine before you got here." He says matter-of-factly.

That one hurt.

Before I can attempt to placate him, or offer to get the cards back, Chishiya walks out the meeting hall. Shocked, I turn to face Niragi who was silently watching everything unfold. He looks down at me with anger in his gaze.

"Well done." He spits.

I blink. My legs have gone cold, my vision narrow, and there's a high pitched ringing echoing in my ears.

I try to speak, but the words lodge in my throat, and suddenly I'm a child again, watching her life fall apart, watching everyone leave her, but too powerless to do anything.

Niragi's gone now too, and I'm left all by myself in the spacious room, golden afternoon light streaming in from the floor length windows.

Trying to control my breathing, I wrap my arms around my torso to keep the hollow space inside steady. I start to move, but I'm not sure where I'm going. It's ok though, because my feet seem to know the way.

Past rooms, down corridors and stairs, and outside.

The sun hits me the moment I step outside, and I lift a hand to shield my face. People are dancing, talking, drinking. The loud clamour hurts my ears, but I don't stop walking.

I descend the ramp into the club. It reeks of sweat and alcohol, but I don't mind too much. Laser lights flash in my eyes as I search for my destination. There.

Pushing through the condense crowd, I squeeze out right in front of the bar.

I don't hesitate in leaping over the counter, ignoring the self-appointed bartender's drunk protests, and grabbing a bottle of whiskey. I then snatch an abandoned cigarette, not caring enough that someone else's mouth had been on it, and I take my prizes to a secluded couch in the corner.

I close my eyes, inhaling the familiar smoke. The music pounds in my chest, and I'm glad for the company of random hot sweaty bodies. Glad not to be alone with my thoughts.
