A/N: Just y'all know... I cried writing this.

I have been sitting on the couch since Joel left. It wasn't too long after he did that sirens filled the air and fighter jets were flying overhead. I was looking out the window wondering what was going on. "Yn?" I jumped a little and turned my head. Sarah was standing in the entryway rubbing her eyes. "Where's dad?" I stood up and walked over to her. "He had to go pick up your Uncle Tommy. Should be back soon," I told her.

More jets flew past and more sirens filled the air. "What's going on?" She asked. I shook my head and pulled her into me. Her arms wrapped around my waist as I held her close. "I don't know." We both jumped when a loud bang came from the sliding glass doors. Outside stood the Adler's dog, Mercy. "Mercy?" Sarah let go of me and went to the front door. "Wait, Sarah, don't open–" it was too late. She had already opened the door and Mercy came running inside.

She knelt down and pet him gently as he whimpered. Poor thing was scared of something. "We have to take him back home," she said. I sighed. "Please, yn." She gave me that look she gave her dad when she wanted something. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "Okay. But–you stay right beside me. Understood?" She nodded her head and we walked over to the Alders.

Sarah had a hold of Mercy but he wouldn't go up onto the deck and ended up pulling out of his collar and ran off. There was the sound of something breaking inside the house and we looked towards the door. "Mrs. Alder?" Sarah called. I turned my head to look at Sarah, "stay behind me." She nodded. The front door was ajar when we walked up to it. I pushed it open and walked inside to see the rug was scrunched up. I fixed it with my foot and Sarah called out for Mrs. Alder again.

I slowly made my way towards the kitchen. My foot slipped on something wet and I looked down to see blood on the floor. I looked at Sarah, "stay here,' I said. She looked at me with worry but nodded. I walked into the kitchen and saw Mr. Adler sat up against the back door. He was bleeding from the neck. "Help me," he whispered. I walked towards him then looked to the side to see nana hunched over Mrs. Adler. "Yn?"

Nana pulled back from Mrs. Adler's neck and there were some kind of root looking things coming from her mouth. She looked up at me, stood and then came at me. I spun around and headed for the door. "Sarah, run!" I yelled. "Go! Go! Run!" She spun around and raced out the door with me following close behind. Just as we got outside Joel and Tommy pulled up and jumped out of the truck. "Get in the truck! Right now!" Joel yelled. I came up behind Sarah and moved her towards the truck.

At the sound of growling and nana coming out of the house we stopped and looked towards her. She came running out and face planted onto the ground before getting up and rushing at us. Joel took the big wrench in his hand and hit over the head when she got close enough. I pulled Sarah into me, her arms wrapping around clinging to me. Joel dropped the wrench then he and Tommy looked over at us. "You killed her," Sarah said.

"Baby, I’m sorry," Joel said, coming over to us. He pulled both of us into him for a second before pulling back. "Joel, we gotta go," Tommy said. He stood in front of the truck with a rifle in his hands. "Listen to me. It’s not just the Adlers. But we’re gonna be brave, and we’re gonna get outta this." There was an explosion that made me jump. The night lit up when the transformer blew and Joel pulled Sarah back into him. "Hey. Let’s go. Come on."

Joel pulled away from Sarah and opened the back door. "Get in," he told us. I let Sarah get into the truck first then I got in and he shut the door. "Joel?" I heard our other neighbor Denise call. "Denise, you get back inside the house! You lock your doors! Now!" Joel yelled out to her. He and Tommy then got in the truck and Joel turned to look at Sarah and I. "Put your seatbelt on," he told Sarah. "Joel, what's going on?" I asked but he ignored me.
