Joel took the box from her, opening it and looking down at the small Diamond ring. He remembers asking Frank to help him pick something small and simple out to give to her. It asked the first day they came here and met him and Bill for the first time. Seeing her in that sundress and how happy she was. They had a fight but he made sure to make it up to her.

That night he had made the decision to make her his forever. There was no more going to a courthouse to get legal documents to sign but did a piece of paper really matter? He wanted her to have his last name. He wanted everyone to know she was his even if that scared him more than a fucking clicker.

So before they left he pulled Frank aside and asked him if he wouldn't mind finding the perfect ring. Asked if they could do it here at the house. She deserved to have a wedding of her dreams but that wasn't happening in this kind of world. But he knew Frank could make it special. The next time Joel saw Frank he told him to forget about it. Because he had so much damn time to think about it and that only scared him more and he backed down.

"At one point, yes," he said. "What happened? Why didn't you ask her?" Ellie pushed. "Because I was a fucking coward. Now stop asking questions. Follow me." He shoved the box in the pocket of his jeans and walked to the bunker door.

"Ho-ly shit. This guy was a genius," Ellie said, looking around the room. There was music playing on repeat and Joel turned it off. "Why was the music on?" Ellie asked. "If he didn’t reset the countdown every few weeks, this playlist would run over the radio," Joel told her. "’80s," Ellie whispered.

"Grab some cans from over there. Nothin’ dented or swollen," he told her. Ellie went in the direction he pointed but stopped when she saw the wall of guns. "Dude," she said, looking back at Joel. "No." He didn't even need to look at her to know what she was talking about. "There’s a wall of them."

After they gathered everything they could and loaded it into the truck Joel checked the battery before walking back inside. "Needs another hour," he said. He again looked around but didn't see yn. "She's still upstairs. I checked on her and she's just now getting in the shower. I think she was crying. Her eyes were red," Ellie said, concerned. "You're taking one after her because…seriously." She wafted her hand in front of her nose and he rolled his eyes and made his way upstairs.

The moment Ellie said she was crying Joel barely heard anything else. He didn't really have a plan. He wasn't sure he really cared that he was just going to barge into the room. All he knew was he needed to make sure she was alright. He needed to tell her he loves her more than she could ever know. He walked to the bedroom, the one that the two of you stayed in a few times before.

The bathroom door was slightly ajar,  steam started to fill the air inside. He noticed that she had grabbed a box of men's clothes for him and sat it on the floor by the bed. He didn't think he just kicked his boots off and undressed before walking into the bathroom. He gently shut and locked the door. His cock was immediately hard at the sight of her silhouette behind the fogged up glass doors.

It's been ten years since he touched her. Since he felt you against him. Felt her wrapped around him as she came undone. Before he could talk himself out of it he walked over, slid open the door, and stepped in behind her. She didn't turn around though. He wondered if she even heard him come in. His hand came up and rested on her hips and only then did she react.

A yelp left her and she started to panic. Trying to get away from whomever was behind her. Joel held onto her, pulling her back against his chest. "It's me. It's just me, baby." Yn spun around, trying her best to cover herself. "What the fuck?! What the fuck, joel! What're you doing?"
