I must have fallen asleep because when I opened my eyes, it was dark outside. I picked up my phone and saw that Abigail texted me.

Thank you again ❤️

A heart. That had to mean something, right? I replied:

No thanks necessary

Is the party over?

She texted back immediately.

Yes! I'm home alone sitting by my pool with Cosmo enjoying a glass of wine.

I ran my free hand through my hair. She texted me and was definitely dropped a not-so-subtle hint about how she was by herself. Should I shoot my shot or play it cool? I weighed the advantage of each response before typing a message.

Want some company?

My phone vibrated and one word appeared on my screen.

Yes

I threw on clothes and practically sprinted to my car after grabbing a couple condoms and some weed from my stash. I knew she liked it, but I actually needed it. Marijuana was the most effective anti-anxiety med I'd ever used. Half an hour later, I pulled into her driveway and took a few calming breaths before going through the side gate to the back yard as she'd instructed I do.

"Hi," she said from a lounge chair.

Cosmo ran over to me with a ball which I threw to the other side of the yard. I approached Abigail who was no longer wearing the pretty dress from the party, though she looked just as beautiful in some loose striped pajama bottoms and a t-shirt. Sitting down on the chair next to her, I smiled. "I'm glad you texted."

She sat up and tucked her legs under herself. "This doesn't change anything. Seeing you today made me feel a lot of things, and I'm in a mental place where I'm allowing myself to indulge a bit," she said, slurring slightly.

It stung to hear that this was going to be an isolated occurance, but I covered my feelings with a laugh. "I'm an indulgence? That makes me sound like a large slice of chocolate cake."

"Mmhm. That reminds me...I brought some home from the party, so if you're hungry we can have some."

"I'm not craving cake," I said, remembering how much I loved eating her out. Abigail shivered and wrapped her arms around herself, though I suspected it wasn't from the cold. "I brought some weed." I reached into my jeans pocket for the baggie, lighter, and rolling papers. "Want to smoke?"

"Will it hit me harder than gummies?"

"Not harder but much faster. If I can be truthful, I'm a little on edge tonight, so it would be good for me," I told her.

Her beautiful face became clouded with concern. "Do you think we're making a mistake?"

I stood up and moved so that I was sitting next to her. "No. The mistake was not seeing each other for almost half a year. I've missed you."

"Are you still dating-"

I cut her off. "No."

"Good. I would not want to hurt another woman purely for my own needs."

"I wouldn't do that to either of you." I had a strong personal code, and cheating was something I could never be a part of.

Abigail nodded. "I didn't think you would, but I've been fooled before."

I pulled a small table over and expertly rolled a joint before handing it to her.

"When I did this in college, I never really got the knack of inhaling. Can you show me how?" she requested.
