Emilia had been awake for all of five minutes when she decided to pull out a book that she hadn't looked at in a while.
Her conversation with Bonnie had been weeks ago and she couldn't stop thinking about the damned book.

A large part of her hoped that she'd open it and there would be a new name, or at least a sign of an incoming child, but she wasn't surprised when the last date was August 10th just as she remembered.

Emilia sat on the floor, watching as the picture beside the name 'Josette Laughlin' updated and the age switched from 37 to 38.

She smiled lightly and mumbled 'happy birthday' before closing the book and placing it back in its spot on her shelf.
Just as she stood, there was a loud knock on her bedroom door. "Jenna's on the phone, she wants you in Mystic Falls!" Nat called through the door.

"Tell her I'll be there by noon!" Emilia responded as she slid on a pair of leggings over her bare legs.

"She says that's fine and to pick up some wine before you get there." Nat said as Emilia opened the door.

"Okay. I'll be there."

"I'm here, I'm not sure why I'm here, but I'm here!" Emilia called as she entered the Gilbert house. She stopped in her tracks when she came face to face with two people she'd never met before. . . Well, one person and one vampire.

"Jenna, who are they?"
"Emilia, this is Alaric Saltzman and Damon Salvatore." Jenna introduced them.

"Ah, the history teacher and Stefan's brother. Got it." Emilia hummed and finally walked further into the house, taking the wine to the kitchen.

"Sorry I'm a little late. . . There was an accident on 95 then a long line at the store and they tried to call my ID a fake— like what the fuck man? Then traffic only got worse until I managed to get to the back roads, then I got stuck behind a tractor, which was the icing on the shit cake."

"Emilia, you're fine! The food isn't even done yet."

At the mention of food, Emilia's expression changed. "Jenna, please tell me you've not made any of the food. . . No offense but you're a disaster in the kitchen."

"Don't worry your pretty little head, I've not done a single thing."
"Then who has?"
"Doesn't matter." Jenna responded.

"Uh, yeah it does. . . Okay I guess it doesn't completely matter, but I'm killing someone if there's a raisin or cranberry anywhere near any of the food, Jenna. I will bring hell to this household."

"You'd do that on a normal day without being provoked."
"That's fair." Emilia mumbled, grabbing a bag of potato chips from off the top of the fridge. "So, who all is gonna be at this little function?"

-

"Lena, Caroline, how the hell have you been? I messaged you both to check in when Bonnie came back."
"We've been okay. Bonnie's home safely." Elena said shortly.

Emilia raised an eyebrow at the girl that was like her sister before turning to the blonde. "I heard you won Miss Mystic Falls, Care, congrats."

"Thanks! I totally thought Elena would win for obvious reasons, so I was surprised when I won." Caroline responded.
"I'm happy for you. . . I'd like to think I would've won when I was your age, had I still lived here."

"Yeah. What are you now? Thirty?" Caroline questioned and Emilia got the most offended expression on her face.
"I'm gonna pretend you didn't say that, mostly because I feel thirty most days." Emilia said, pointing to the blonde across the porch. "Moving on, catch me up with all the supernatural bullshit."

So they did.

"Wow." Was all Emilia could say.

"Rightt. . . So any progress with you and Clint?" Caroline asked, wiggling her eyebrows.

"Absolutely not, we're friends and that's it. I don't think we'd be more, that fucker knows way too much about me."

"What about Nat? She's pretty." Elena grinned.
"And way out of my league." Emilia responded with a laugh.
"She's not though! Sure, she's literally stunning, but so are you." Caroline argued.

"I don't even know if she swings that way. Sure I could ask, but she could get mad and she's terrifying. . . But it's so hot at the same time— God, why do I have to be like this?"

"Just flirt with her, maybe it'll get you somewhere." Elena suggested.
"You just might be onto something, Lena."

I'm not back completely, because let's be honest, I've been slacking so bad lmao

Updates will be all over the place for quite some time since I'm working on other projects, but the next chapter will come before the end of the month.
