Chapter Twenty

Being on the run is one thing. We're wearing stolen uniforms, running through the city at dark.
But when you have to help someone else be on the run, that's another story.

Newt is clinging to Thomas and Minho. Every few steps his feet drag against the sidewalk, pulling down either Thomas or Minho.
It's so incredibly hard to watch, to understand, even. How can someone go from seemingly perfectly fine, to have such deranged body motions in such a short time?
It's hurts to watch because what is there I can do?

Abruptly, we come to a halt. Confused for a moment I glance around. Then to my right where everyone else is glaring.

It's the sound I hear first.
The crumbling. A fire cackling.

It's the flames that come next

A building, that has to be a least two blocks away, begins to shatter. It falls into flames and slowly to the ground.

"They were supposed to take down WICKED," Gally says. He's staring intently at building with a worried expression on his face. The building is now exploding with flames and fire. "Not the whole goddamn city."

"Gally... come on," Thomas says, obviously in a hurry to continue running.

And we do. Continue running that is.

Not even a few corner turns later, I look out ahead and hear Gally's words repeat in my head. The whole goddamn city.

It's only a matter of time before the city is bound to end up like that building.
