Mei Lin had always envied the beloved Guizhong.

When Guizhong was created, the entire region felt her appearance. She was lovely with short hair, blue and white robes, and kind, gentle eyes. Her wisdom and ability to create weapons were admired from all directions. Even if her moniker was the "Goddess of Dust", she was never forgotten or lost in the winds of change. Teaching useful skills in weaponry and agriculture, many books were made to discuss her topics that would be used forever.

She was just a minor goddess. When she was created, she was deep within the caverns of the Chasm. There was no shrouding of the clouds or rumbling of the ground, but a single drop of water rouse her from her slumber. Her body floated in a small lake in a deep cave. There were no robes around, just a single tarp left behind by an expedition team. Her hair was unruly and coarse like the fine stones that grew around her. Her eyes adjusted to the glowing stones and used them to guide her way. The surface world was a mystery to her, making her curious about what was up there. Books and journals recounting events from the outside world were scattered around the caverns, making her long even more for escape.

That day she vowed to take her place under the sun.

So she practiced her abilities to gain an upper hand. The monsters below were no match for her numerous attacks. She could summon black stones that generated energy that would decay her foes. Another set of stones could form a shield that protects her from attacks. The most gruesome ability was her black stones that could drain the life of the people who touched them. She was powerful as long as she had access to the ground or rocks.

Sadly, she was unable to reach the surface without the caverns growing and expanding to prevent her from coming out. This frustrated her to no end. How could she upstage that tramp if she couldn't even leave a stupid cavern?

Her answer came in the form of a serpentine water monster.

Dear Daiyu,

We hope that you are faring well at the palace! Your brothers have told me that you work near the emperor and the royal family. We knew that one day you would become a big important person. You haven't sent us money in quite some time. Due to terrible weather happening lately, a lot of the village's crops have been flooded! Several young children travel for miles to gather any rice that wasn't drowned underwater. It has been quite disheartening. Please send some Mora our way when you get this letter so that the chief can buy some new seeds. Give our love to your brothers.

Sincerely,

Mama and Baba

"She has suffered under her parent's thumb, hasn't she?"

It was the day before the royalty of Mondstadt was supposed to arrive. Daiyu was now released from her punishment and currently sleeping back in her room. No one knows what happened in that trapped room she was in, but something had changed her for better or worse. Either way, Zhongli had brought her out of the punishment room and placed her back into her room. Noelle had changed her into her sleep garments and tucked her in tight. Everyone had a chance to kiss her on the forehead except for Zhongli who placed a kiss on her lips. This angered his sons, but they completely shut their mouths to avoid his wrath. Just as they left her room, a bird came and dropped a letter by the window. Yunjin spotted this, taking the letter and reading it aloud to their amusement and disgust.

"You know, she's never mentioned a single thing about her family. I didn't even know she had brothers working here until I met them during training." Gorou said, leaning against the side wall.

"How troublesome her parents must be to beg their child for money." Noelle placed a hand on her cheek, making a sad face. "Our poor maid does seem to send home money every time she received a paycheck."

"That makes sense now when I look at where her money goes. I kept track for a while since I was concerned she was saving money to leave us." Ningguang stared at the door of Daiyu's room. "Could it be that she misses them?"

"If she misses them, wouldn't she have mentioned that fact?" Itto pointed out, angered because that was another secret kept from them.

"I say we take matters into our own hands. Perhaps we need to interrogate the brothers about the location of the parents." Albedo pulled out a small vial of clear liquid. "Just in time for me to use my newly made truth serum."

Zhongli held up a hand, making the family go silent. Whenever he was this quiet and deep in thought, there would be trouble brewing. Usually, this would be a flattened city, the firing of scheming maids or butlers, or even the destruction of some other land. Though, as it was, the royal family knew that when the emperor got quiet, it meant something was brewing.

They watched him walk to the window overlooking the gardens. Glaze Lilies gently wafted a scent into the quiet, night air. The family pet slept with a smile on his face by the pond. This peaceful moment was ruined when a large pillar burst from the ground in front of them. His eyes were glowing gold with anger and protectiveness for his treasure.

"I just had a more permanent solution to this parent problem."

At the village off the side of Liyue, all was calm.

Due to the crops being flooded, not much was being done in terms of work. The children managed to gather as much rice as they could to feed their families. The village chief awaited the funds from Daiyu as per the instructions of her parents. Said parents were waiting for the messenger bird with their money to use for the village. Hearing from their sons that Daiyu was closer to the royal family than they were, they hope for more money than before due to this closeness. While they may not be as close to their daughter as some would think they are, it was always their dynamic to take as much as they could from her.

So, they waited until the wee hours of the night for the delivery.

"Are you sure that child is going send that money? She has been a disappointing figure in our lives for too long." Mama said, putting away the leftovers from dinner.

"Well if she wants our respect, she better. I'm not going to just let our sacrifice be in vain." Baba paused, placing the rest of the dishes up. "This child won't accomplish anything with her life and we'll leave everything to her brothers instead."

Mama was about to reply when the room started to shake. The entire village started to quake all at once as if someone were shaking the ground itself. Several villagers ran out of their houses, only to get impaled by large stone spires that protruded out of the ground. Cracks started to form, splitting the entire village into pieces and swallowing poor houses down into the ground. Baba held onto the walls while Mama went under the table. This lasted for five minutes before everything got quiet once more. For a second, the couple thought the worst was over.

None expected a large meteor to smash the village flat.

Standing from a nearby mountain, the royal family smirked with glee as Zhongli ceased his assault.

"Like I said to those who disobey me before,"

"I will have order."
