Alexander:
I squeezed Hazel tightly. She was alive! But that doesn't mean my child was. The doctor came in.
"Hello, Mrs. Arcady," she said. Hazel's head perked up. "Hello," Hazel said. "This is very bad for the baby," the doctor paused, "but the baby is alive."
I could've screamed from happiness that my child was alive! "George, Lavinia, Ruthie, Jeremy, Daisy, and Amina, please leave us alone." I told them. They left with the doctor.
I hugged Hazel tightly. "Don't worry, I'm not dead, nor is the baby," Hazel told me. I kissed her on the cheek. "Oh Hazel, I'm glad you're not done." I told her. Hazel chuckled. "Me too. Now get some sleep please, Alexander." Hazel told me. I rested my head against the wall and fell asleep, still holding her hand.
I woke up in the hospital to hear Hazel groaning. "Oh, the baby has to kick so damn hard!" Hazel said, shooting up. I woke up.
I bumped my head against the wall as I woke up. Hazel burst out laughing. I laughed too.
"You feelin' OK?" I asked. Hazel nodded. I squeezed her hand, smiling. I leaned in and kissed Hazel. Hazel blushed and kissed me back.
The doctor came in and told us we could go home. I help Hazel out of bed and I held her in my arms.
I walked Hazel out to our rental car. I drove her back to our hotel. When we got there, George hugged Hazel. "Hello, George, I'm fine, you know." Hazel told him, smiling. Daisy wrapped her arm around Hazel. Ruthie hugged her leg because Ruthie was short.
We went to my room.
"OK, Alexander, tell me what you saw," Daisy said, sitting down.
"Well, Shiloh was dead," I told her. "OK, how do you think she died?" Lavinia asked. "Gun. I think since Hazel was"--I got choked up a bit--"hurt, I think they used a gun." I told her.
I made Hazel lat down on my bed next to me in bed. I was sitting up next to her in bed, squeezing her hand. Hazel fell asleep.
"OK, tell me about the scene you saw," Amina said.
"Um, well. We were walking, and we heard a scream and I told Hazel to not go because I didn't want her to get hurt"—I began to cry--"and we went anyways." I buried my face in my hands.
"OK, guys, let's go." George said. They walked out and left me with Hazel.
I cried again.
Hazel woke up and squeezed my hand. I squeezed her hand. "Hazel, are you feeling OK?" I asked. "Yeah. Are you though?" she asked, sitting up. But I made her lay back down. "No, lay down, and no, I'm not OK. You were shot!" I told her, a little too harshly. "Oh, I should've listened to you! I'm so sorry, Alex. This si all my fault." Hazel began to cry too.
"No, no, no, shh! It's not your fault you wanted to know if the person was OK," I told her, stroking her hair. Hazel buried her face in my chest, weeping. I patted her back.
"Oh! But I should've listened!" Hazel said. I patted her back. Hazel wept. "There, there, just calm down," I told her. I titled her face up so I could kiss her. Hazel smiled. I wiped a tear from her face. Hazel wiped a tear from my cheek.
I cupped her face.
"Don't worry, Hazel. We'll get through it,"
Hazel nodded and said with me,
"Together."
