Another night passed, and even spending it in Harvey's arms was not enough to help Lilith fall asleep. She wanted to go back to the streets and continue the search for the Ogre, but she couldn't risk Harvey waking up and seeing her gone. Lilith couldn't lie to him more than she already did. He didn't deserve that.
"Good morning," Harvey said when he left his bedroom, already dressed in his dark blue suit and tie to match, and found her wearing only one of his shirts. Breakfast was already on the table. The smell of toast spread through the kitchen and living room, immediately making him hungry. "You woke up early".
"Wanted to make breakfast. And I still need to go home and change before I go to work," Lilith told him as they sat at the table.
Harvey started on his two toasts and then took a sip of his double espresso.
"Could you drop me off at work today?" She asked, hoping he would accept. The Ogre surely had seen him get her jacket from the Mustang along with Bruce and Selina. Lilith almost threw up her toast due to the fear turning malevolently in the pit of her stomach. She didn't want to think about what could happen if the Ogre went after them, but it was impossible to put away those dark images.
"Sorry, I would, but I have another meeting with the DA". He looked at his watch. "And I'm already running late. I'm really sorry".
The fear in her stomach turned into a hurricane, as if it were mocking her. Despite feeling nauseous, she still managed a smile. "It's okay".
Harvey ate his toasts quickly and downed the rest of his coffee. "Thank you for the breakfast, love". He stood up and gave her a quick kiss. "I'll see you tonight". And then he was gone, leaving behind a clench in her heart.
After that, Lilith returned to her apartment and entered the room that she always kept locked. She immediately checked the Demon's phone and found a text from Jim.
'He's going after Barbara!'
Lilith gasped. How could she have missed Barbara? They were all worried about Lee, but none of them had even thought about Barbara being a possible victim. She had been Jim's fiancée after all. Their photographs had been posted in several newspapers.
Before going out as the Red Demon, with a coat over her clothes and the mask down until she reached a secured location, Lilith called Harvey to make sure he had arrived safe to the courthouse. Fortunately, he did. He would be safe inside. Then she called Alfred. When the butler answered, there was deep sadness in his voice. That tone caused Lilith's heart to start pounding inside her chest.
