Chapter Ten

Goldilocks

We're out of the candy house and it feels nice knowing that I'm not about to be a witch's next meal.

"Thank you for helping me get the kids, Goldi," Cameron says to me.

The last time I was called that was by Max. It hits a nerve.

"I'm glad I was able to help. And thankfully I have my voice back," I say to the group.

After the witch burned or poofed into thin air, my voice came back.

"Hansel, Gretel, you two get back to the house. Goldilocks and I need a moment alone," Cameron says to his children. "Oh, and Hansel, make sure your sister doesn't eat anything."

The witch must've forced Gretel to eat a dozen cakes because she looks like she's gained fifty pounds since this morning.

I look at her father and wonder what he needs a moment alone for.

"We need to save that girl in the tower. Whatever that witch was up to, it has to be no good," he says and we head back in the direction of the tower.

Even though this man tried to kill me, I couldn't be happier that I met him. He's a kind father and a good person. I would've never guessed that he hunted people for a living.

As we walk, he holds my hand. It ignites a spark of butterflies in my stomach. I can't help but feel like a little girl in grade school with her first crush.

"I'm glad we met," Cameron says to me.

   "Me too," I smile.

We approach the tower and I let go of him.

"You want to call her?" I question him. I really don't want to be the one to do it. If this girl has been raised by the witch, who knows what nonsense has been filled in her brain?

Cameron nods. "Rapunzel, let down your hair!" he shouts.

As he does, I can't help but stare at him. His side profile is so hot. He has a squared jawline and tiny beard stubble. Cameron's cute little dimples also show when he smiles. I think he's hot but I need to clear the thought from my mind.

Getting involved with a man, a huntsman, no less, is something I don't need right now.

The girl in the tower looks down at us but doesn't let down her long red hair. "Who are you two?" Rapunzel questions us.

"I'm Cameron, and this is Goldilocks. Your little witch friend just tried to eat my children and we want to help you," he says, annoyed.

Rapunzel just stares at us, she probably has a million questions. After making a decision, she finally lets down her hair.

"Well, what are you waiting for? Climb," She says all snarky.

   Okay then.

Cameron offers me to climb up first so he can catch me if I fall. I need to stop gushing over the simple things he's doing.

We finally climb up Rapunzel's hair and get into the tower.

After all that climbing, I'm panting, I shouldn't be this out of breath. Cameron hands me his bottle of water even though he's tired too.

"Thanks, Cameron," I say. "You need to stop doing these nice things or I'm going to fall for you."

"Get a room, geez," Rapunzel says.
