Chapter Thirteen

Sage

I knock on the small cottage door, disguised as Cameron's new ugly blonde girl.

"Goldilocks?" my stepdaughter questions me and pulls me into a hug.

I've never hugged this girl in my life, so it's just as awkward as I'd imagine it to be.

"Hey, Snow! I was on my way to, um, Wonderland and I thought I'd stop by!" I say in my best cheerful voice.

Pretending to be someone else is tough.

"Wonderland?" Snow questions. "I thought you were trying to escape from there."

   Shit.

I should've done more research. I know nothing about this Goldilocks girl and I'm not doing a very good job at convincing the princess that I'm her friend.

"Well, I decided I needed to go back there and I'm just craving one of your apple pies," I say and hand her a basket full of poisonous apples.

I think I've convinced her that I am Goldilocks because she invited me in. The little dwarfs she's been hanging out with are thankfully nowhere to be found so the only person I need to act for is Snow White.

I sit on the uncomfortable couch as she gets to baking.

The cottage is so small, to my left there are about seven tiny beds all squished together. To my right is the kitchen. The ceilings are so short, I have to duck down. I hate the feel of the cottage, it was obviously made for dwarfs.

I'm surprised Snow has gotten used to staying here in the tiny home. I know for a fact that the spoiled brat has lived in the castle her whole life.

"So why are you going back to Wonderland?" Snow questions me.

I've gotten comfortable on the couch, I almost forgot that I still had blonde curls and ugly jeans. I decided to make something up.

"Well those Wonderland Mushrooms seem to be the new craze there, I want to try them,"

   Hopefully, Goldilocks likes getting high.

"The mushrooms? Didn't you say Max was smoking them and that's why you left?"

I'm doing a horrible job. Of course, Goldilocks doesn't smoke.

I have to keep myself from rolling my eyes. From what I know about this Goldilocks girl, she probably doesn't roll her eyes much.

"Honestly Snow, I just need to go back to Max. He's a great brother and I want to help him out," I lie, yet again.

I've just been praying that I've gotten some details correct.

"Brother? You said Max was your ex-boyfriend and the father of your child. Are you okay Goldilocks?" Snow says and stops what she's doing.

Learning that my disguised body is a mother must explain these awful stretch marks.

But it's obvious I can't keep up this charade. Time for a backup plan.

"No, he's my brother. I think you're the one going crazy," I try to convince her.

"So is Queen Sage still trying to catch you?" I ask, hopefully distracting her.
