"Aoi, bring the documents."
Aoi quickly began passing out several pages of paper to each of us. Included in the packet was what appeared to be an aerial photograph of The National Museum of Nature and Science in Ueno Park, Tokyo. The date on the photograph was today's. It was the same area that had been sealed off yesterday because, according to the news, someone had set off a smoke bomb the day before.
The photograph showed a huge, uneven hole in the middle of the museum's main lobby roof. It looked as if an explosion had occurred, or even as if a meteor had struck the area.
"This was on the news this morning..." Hachi says, "Mito said that the museum and zoo were both closed because of terrorist attacks."
Kureto nods, "It was. Did the rest of you all see it?" Everyone nods, though most of us had probably heard about it from someone else. In the Order of Imperial Demons, watching the news was pointless because we knew most of the information in it was at least partially falsified.
"Everything that was said on the news was a lie," declares Kureto. "The Imperial Demons' intelligence bureau has determined that the entire Ueno district was being used as the site of an experiment by the Brotherhood of a Thousand Nights. It seems as if some sort of accident has occurred. Right now, the Thousand Nights is using all of their re- sources to try to cover up whatever happened."
"Is this all we know about the experiments and current status of the area?" I ask, flipping through the pages and finding practically nothing.
"Sadly, yes. We've been aware for some time now that Ueno was being used in this way, but since we never expected a war with the Thousand Nights, we didn't investigate further. I'm sure we could have uncovered something if we had looked, but the Imperial Demons have their own secrets and we didn't want them investigating us in turn." Kureto explains.
"But, once the Thousand Nights attacked the school, our non-aggression pact with them was null and void. Now, well, everything goes during times of war."
