The Ueno Museum of Nature and Science wasn't far from where we had been dropped off.
I couldn't be certain whether we had tripped any barriers as we made their may to our entrance point. It was possible the enemy had already been alerted to our presence.
We keep moving, hoping that the distraction Kureto has promised would work.
We chose to explore the Japan gallery of the museum first. This was partially because it was smaller, and partially because it was usually seen as the less important if the two sides of the museum as the global gallery has most of the limited time attractions. The other Order of Imperial Demon teams would enter through the main entrance and manage anything in the global gallery for as long as they could. If we found nothing, we would meet them there.
We had just reached an emergency exit door just out of sight of the main entrance, when we heard the other assault begin. Zev starts towards the door like he is going to force it open, but I stop him before he can.
"Amethyst, any obvious magic traps on the other side of this door?" I ask, readying an arrow into my crossbow.
They pull a fuda from one of their hidden pockets and plaster it to the door. It did nothing, not even the slight glow that the words and symbols usually took on when a spell was activated.
"Nothing, it doesn't seem like there is any magic aura in the rooms nearby." Amethyst says after a few moments.
"Could we have been wrong? Maybe whatever we are looking for is in the global gallery." Zev asks.
"It's possible, but we don't have time to change tactics now. Hachi?" I signal my retainer.
He understands immediately, unsheathing his katana, and cutting a perfect line where the door meets the door jamb. The door creaks open just slightly, but the alarm usually accompanied by the opening of an emergency door doesn't go off.
"Good work. Everyone, weapons ready?" I say.
Everyone nods.
Jain opens the door fully for us at my signal. Before it is even fully open, we are hit by a wall of dense air, thick with the scent of blood.
