The teachers gather us a few minutes later, taking us to the gymnasium. The bleachers are set up, half of them already filled with the boys that also attend the preschool. We have never had a joint class before, so everyone is instantly excited when they realize that something was important enough to bring the two groups of students together.
"Welcome children, today we have a wonderful announcement. In a few years time, two of you will be chosen to become royalty!" One of the teachers calls after all students are sat and quiet enough to hear.
The talking starts up again, blocking the teacher from continuing as students yell their hopes of becoming a prince or princess. All I can think of is how strange the idea is.
Eventually the excitement dies down again, everyone waiting patiently to be told how this great opportunity was possible.
"Some of you may be aware that this preschool is run by the order of imperial demon, but for the rest of you the name will be new. This organization will soon have a new leader, and that leader will need someone to marry. You all may be young now, but the next leader must have someone strong to stand alongside them. Their husband or wife must be able to protect them and as such, they must be trained from a young age. You will start this training today." The teacher explains.
Most of the announcement goes over our heads, but students catch the words 'royalty' and later 'magic' and are hooked. In their minds, nothing will keep them from marrying the next leader of the imperial demons.
However, the speech also serves to put me on edge. A feeling of daja vu hits me like a bus with each line the teacher says. I can't stand to listen anymore, too put off to be excited about the possibility of becoming a princess.
Instead, my eyes land on a girl in the row in front of me. The kids on either side of her squish together to avoid being too close. She looks fairly normal, her preschool uniform the same as everyone else's and her white hair is not too uncommon at the school. I can see a boy with the same color sitting at the bottom of the bleachers, staring intently as the teacher explains the kinds of magic we will learn. I can't figure out what was so different about the girl, but she makes everyone fearful.
She seems to feel my eyes, turning to stare at me. Then I notice a red haze around her, and a wicked smile on her face.
