You look at the picture of Will at the science fair, deep in thought.
Eventually, you turn around, facing the boys. "Don't tell Mike's mom."
Lucas, not listening, runs towards the door, opening it a few inches before it slams shut. He tries to open it again, but it slams shut- even harder- and the lock clicks.
You frown and look over at El.
She's standing now, staring at the door. Blood is dripping from her left nostril. "No," she whispers.
Quietly, but firmly.
You're all left speechless.
"Did you just see that?" Dustin whispers to you.
You nod quietly, still thinking.
"She just shut that door. . .with her mind. . ." Dustin continues.
You furrow your brow.
"Hey, it's dinnertime," Mike looks toward the door. "You guys should. . . go home." His focus is on El.
Lucas, who's been quiet for the most part, nods in agreement.
"Can we regroup later?" you say. "I need some time to think."
The Party nods in agreement, and the three of you bike- or, in your case, walk- home.
