NIGHT came. I still want to stay here with Build, but Davon called me regarding the investigation of this incident. According to Davon, they found CCTV footage where the possible culprit got caught. So, I have to go to our headquarters immediately to check on it.

It might really be Fifth Digit Slayer. But we couldn’t help but to get mystified, because it’s so unusual for FDS to become reckless about his crimes.

But if it was really FDS, this might be a great lead for the case. We already have CCTV footage, and a witness--- which is Build, if he accepts to cooperate with us.

I held Build’s hand. “I’ll be back tomorrow morning. I hope you regain your consciousness when I come back.” I took his hand towards my lips and kissed the back of his palm gently. I smiled and said, “I hope you don’t mind.”

After that, I let go of him and turned to Finley, who was just smiling while watching us. This man had never left since he came this lunch time. I still don’t trust him, but I have no choice but to leave Build on him. He’s the right-hand man after all.

“I called some people to guard---” He immediately cut me.

“You don’t have to. We already have people to guard Jak. And I’m here to take care of him. You don’t have to worry about him,” he said, still smiling.

Does this man know how to frown? His smile’s starting to creep on me.

“I insist. I want to make sure he’s safe.” I don’t trust you. But of course, I didn’t say that.

Still smiling, he replied, “Jak doesn’t like cops lurking around him. Please, don’t make this hard on us. I’ll talk to Chief Suwan when you leave. Stop worrying yourself. We won’t let anything bad happen to Jak. You can trust us.”

My glabella wrinkled. Build doesn’t like being around cops? But he’s friends with me. It doesn’t make sense. I was about to argue with him, but my phone rang.

Davon called, asking if I was on my way. So, I just told him that I am. I really have to leave.

I faced Finley again after dropping the call. I looked at him strictly and said, “I will repeat what I was about to say before you cut me. I called some people to guard Build. They will stay outside, so Build won’t see them. You don’t have to tell him about them, so he won’t feel uncomfortable. I hope you’ll cooperate with us.”

His smile lessened as he breathed out in defeat, before slowly nodded at me and smiled again. “Okay, Detective. I understand.”

“That’s good.”

I gazed at the unconscious Build once again, before I finally left.

When I reached our headquarters, I immediately headed to our office. After entering the office, I saw Davon in front of his laptop on the long table.

“You’re finally here,” he said when he noticed me entering the office.

I immediately walked in his direction and sat beside him. “What have you gathered? Did you find any lead?” then, I asked.

“See this.” He faced the screen of the laptop to me.

It was the CCTV footage he mentioned. In the footage, I saw Build running and entering an alley. He was even checking the surroundings before entering the alley completely. Maybe making sure that I wasn’t able to follow him. I just sighed.
