The village used to be such a small place. Even during the war, the peace and quietness still remained in the small valley. However, things were starting to change.Ink stared at the river as he rested from a mornings work with the animals and crops. Despite his demonic partner relieving some of the chores, there were still a lot.
The water was relaxing, both from the sight and its sounds. The mortal's mind could not help but wonder back to work. A whole list of orders still remained on that desk and Ink somewhat hated thinking about returning it.
He knew what his role was in the village. When Lily was still alive, her role was to take care of everyone. She would provide food and supplies, even nurture them when she had the chance. Now that was Ink's job, especially using his now detailed understanding of apothecary.
Ink felt a tap suddenly on his arm. Looking up, he saw Error. A smile appeared on the mortal's face. Meeting his love was one of the only good things to happen in Ink's life recently.
Error: What are you doing?
Ink: Just thinking.
Error: About what?
The demon questioned as he sat down next to the farm boy. Ink felt a large wing rest around his shoulders. The feathers were warm as he leaned against Error.
Ink: About work... I guess.
He sighed, knowing what he just said. Ink could not remember the last he had a moment between him and Error, even less with one to himself.
A tear rolled down Ink's cheek. He wiped it away before the demon could notice. The mortal did not want to worry his partner as Error already had to worry about Ink's sleeping problem.
Error: Why are you crying?
It seemed that Error did notice.
Ink: I do not know. Frustration, anger, self doubt, all of them. I am just so tired of working all the time. I just want to get some sleep.
Error gently pet Ink's head. It was relaxing and Ink began to close his eyes. However a voice called out to them.
The wing moved away so Ink could see. It was Tabet, she obviously had something to say.
Ink stood up and walked over to her, Error following closely behind.
Ink: Good afternoon Tabet. What can I help you with? Do you need more healing potions or salves?
Tabet: No, not this time. There are some rumors in the village. A stranger, a woman with white hair, has been looking for a demon. I think she's looking for Error and has come here to kill him.
Ink looked at his partner. Error's face was expressionless. The description of that woman sounded familiar to the demon. It matched the appearance of the hero girl that tried to kill Error two years ago, only a few hours before he met Ink and the mortal saved him.
Ink: Is she here now?
Tabet: I believe, yes. She said she would go through each and every home until she has the head of the demon.
Error thought quietly to himself. Now he had two problems with deal with, his brothers threatening the destruction of the village and his love and now this brave little girl wanting to kill him.
(Time Skip)
Ink paced endlessly in the living room. It was dark and the village was falling asleep for the night. However the mortal had no urge to sleep, like every night.
The cabin was quiet which gave Ink a good atmosphere to think clearly. He was worried for his partner. He needed to keep the village healthy and safe but he also needed to keep Error safe from whoever wanted to kill him.
A pair of arms wrapped around Ink and then he saw white feathers appear at the sides of his vision. The mortal never realized that Error had returned from his night patrol.
Error: You should be in bed, Ink.
Ink: I can not sleep. I am worried about you.
Error: I can protect myself. Now, let's get some sleep.
The two went to their bedroom. They changed into more comfortable clothing and they laid down in bed. Ink shifted to get into a comfortable position but could not seem to find it.
Error pulled Ink close to him and rested a wing on the mortal, giving him a warm blanket of feathers. The demon lightly pet his partner's head.
Ink let out an exhausted yawn, finally falling into a natural sleep after so many nights of needing magic to rest. A night...
Finally to themselves
