It was a devastating day, when the demons invaded the mortal kingdoms. It started as a beautiful morning but then fire began to rain from the sky and demonic warriors purged the towns of the people that lived there.

The invasion was over quickly, ending after only six months. The capital surrendered to the unrelenting power of the enemy race. By the end, blood covered the roads and stained the once green grass of the peaceful rolling hills.

Piles of mortal bodies were burned, a celebratory festival happening around them. However, those that had survived had a protector.

A single demon, one that had a particular love for mortals, took control of a well fortified kingdom that rivaled the power of the once strong capital.

There mortal refugees could seek safety within the protected borders, away from the rest of the demon race.

Mortals slowly began to pick themselves up. They rebuilt abandoned homes, fortified stone walls, planted crops for food, and raised animals for ranches.

However they were far different people now. Each one was haunted by memories of their loved ones being killed and what they knew their entire lives was destroyed.

Carefully watching the mortals from the castle, was that one demon that had compassion for these innocent victims. He had helped his people take over these lands because of the deal he made with his brother a year ago.

Error stood in thought, thinking about the past. He did not regret making that deal as he had kept his loved one alive. His primary goal was to keep Ink safe and happy, especially during these times.

Letting out a small sigh, the demon turned around and walked away from the balcony that he stood on. He entered the bedroom that he and Ink slept in.

He looked around and admired what his mortal lover had done over the time they had lived there. Ink had hung up paintings, each one depicting scenery from the valley. It made the demon homesick, their home was back in that small village.

Ink had the option to stay in order to guarantee his safety but he decided to go with Error. The mortal had stated that he would never leave his love's side.

The demon left the bedroom and walked through the empty halls of the castle. No one else lived there, it was only Error and Ink as everyone else was rebuilding their lives after the invasion.

As Error walked, he passed a mirror that hung low on the wall. It was made of silver and had ornate engravings on it. It was presumably the important religious symbols of the previous civilization that lived in this kingdom. He noticed himself and how he looked. Error was in his original form, horns pointing outwards and tail swinging with a mind of its own. However, his feathered wings still remained white.

Eventually the demon made it to the kitchen. This was the only room that had signs of life in it. The smell of soup filled the air and it immediately reminded Error of the first time he had ever met Ink and Lily. Ink was making the soup that he was given the first day in the village.

There his mortal lover stood, facing the stone oven and stirring the soup. Accompanying the mortal was a black cat, one named Moon. She curled up in a spot where it was warm from the oven's fire.

A smile came to Error as he saw the love of his life and their pet.

Ink was buried in his own thoughts but it was interrupted when he felt arms around his waist. A tail wrapped around his leg and white wings slowly appeared in his peripheral vision. Then there was a small kiss on his neck.

Ink: Hey.

Error hummed a response, burying himself in Ink's brown scarf.

Ink: Soup is ready.

Error: It smells delicious.

Ink lifted the spoon from the pot, allowing the demon to take a small sip. Error happily accepted the offer, tasting his mortal lover's great cooking.

The two sat down at a table with bowls of hot soup, slowly eating and enjoying their company.

Ink: Is the village still safe?

Error: Yes. The protective spells surrounding it are still strong. Everyone within are untouched by the invasion. I made sure my brothers know to leave them alone.

Ink: Good. I wish to visit Lily's grave.

Error: Okay.

(Time Skip)

Error and Ink stood in front of a stone slab that was placed under a big tree behind the log cabin the two lived in together peacefully.

Ink held a small rose that he had plucked from the garden outside the castle and had brought it all the way to valley. The mortal knelt down and gently placed the flower on the stone.

Ink: I am sorry, mama. It was too dangerous to visit you last year but the war should be over now.

After a small moment of silence, Ink stood up. He turned around and hugged Error.

Ink: Why did it have to end like this, Error? Why could the demons not be peaceful?

Error: They have experienced years of pain, they do not know peace anymore. I wish I could do something to stop my brothers but I made a deal with them to keep you safe. I will do the best I can to protect the remaining mortals.

Ink: Okay. I love you, Error.

I love you too, Ink
