"Ah, my eye aches!"
Vivian rubbed his eyes abused by too much computer exposure.
The notification sound captured his attention only to disappoint him.
It was from Lizzy.
'Tomorrow come home early. There will be a divorce party. Just me, you and Jackson.Lets cheer him up'My foot!
He threw the phone on his table and dropped himself on his bed.
Just two more days and his brother will also be a divorcee.
Vivian had been sent to hostel the very next day after Jewel came home from hospital only to never come back.He was the one who went to the hospital on his brother's behalf but Lizzy was so furious that she had called him back immediately.
That guilt will always haunt him.
Back then, Vivian thought he had no other option other than listen to what his mother had ordered but deep down he always knew.
The choice to do the right thing is always in the open.
The least he could have done was to inform his brother. As someone who had been at home more often than Jackson, Vivian had seen whatever that was happening there.
Jewel wasn't a horrible human being contrary to what Lizzy said.
They were just different people. It was unjust of Lizzy to expect her daughter-in-law as a house managing machine or as a baby making machine.
His sister-in-law was a doctor! She was kind, smart and understanding. She was the only one who could see right through his frustruation.
Vivian glanced at the guitar Jewel had ordered for him secretly. As a younger sibling to a highly successful brother, Jewel knew what Vivian was going through.
Similiarly, Vivian could sense Jewel's self respect crash everytime Lizzy whined about the girls who almost became her daughter-in-law or when someone said Jackson deserved a better girl. He didn't know anything about what kind of fairy was in his mother's mind, but Vivian was damn sure Jewel was not there by accident.
If Jackson was the one to initiate the proposal, then there sure is some history or maybe some agenda!
At first, Viviaan was surprised that a girl had actually managed to grab Jackson's attention, after all these years. He was curious too, about what kind of person she was...... Is she damn pretty? Or is she a part of some influential family? Maybe rich?
After a suspense had build up, Viviaan and Jewel greeted each other in person at the engagement party.
He had guessed right, Jewel was pretty but average-pretty. Somehow, Jackson couldn't take his eyes off her.
Once she came home as Jackson's wife, he realized...Ah, she wasn't the one who captured his attention but Jackson was trying too hard to get Jewel's attention! It was the other way around!
What surprised him most was the fact that his brother is actually smitten by a woman! Gosh, he married his crush!!!
Viviaan reminisced singing for them at the wedding, genuinely wishing all the best things in the world. He had great respect for her family as well. Honestly, they were such a flex in the name of in-laws. Just that girl Mira irked him. She gave a mean girl vibe. But Jewel and especially her father Dr Albert seemed fond of Mira. Maybe, Albert was too fond of her, to ignore his own daughter and introduce Mira to his colleagues. He could swear that he saw her enjoy stealing attention.
Since Viviaan was mostly silent, people hardly noticed him but, he was the most observant guy in the room. That was how he came to overhear Mira and Tisha laughing about Jewel's sneakers and mock her failure to score a great rank like themselves in the medical entrance exams.
