7. ENGAGEMENT

Time heals. But it's a fucking lie. Seeing Sapphire standing a few metres away from me smiling happily made me realise how miserable I am.

How can she move on so fastly? Didn't she love me? Series of questions swirled in my mind.

A tap on my shoulder brought me back to reality. I turned to my left and met with an older version of myself. My father, Adam Knight stood in front of me. I hugged him like my life depended on it which he returned in equal favour.

" How are you my son?" He asked as we withdrew from the hug.

Three words. One question. But I don't know the answer to that question.

Instead of replying I just gave him a small smile.

" Lean, you don't have to pretend to be fine in front of me. I am your father, you can talk to me. I am always here. " Dad said as he clasped his hands tightly around my shoulder.

" I know dad." I nodded my head at him.

" Now stop mopping. She has moved on now it's your time. I am sure you will find a better partner than her." Saying that he patted my back and went towards where my uncle's Drew and Zac were standing.

My eyes searched for my mother and it didn't took me much time as she was standing beside my maternal grandmother. Bracing myself, I strode towards where she was.

Even though she was in her late forties but she hasn't aged since her thirties. Some people would mistake her as our elder sister.

Noticing my presence, her facial expression changed from a happy one to angry one.

" Well if it isn't my handsome son who abandoned me." She mocked me as soon as I reached near her causing Grandma to laugh hysterically.

" Mama. I didn't abandon you. I was just busy with my work. You know I am running a multi billion dollar company." I reasoned out.

" The same company where my husband was the CEO, but he did had time for his family." She retorted back.

" Mama, I promise you I will visit you every day without missing. Now forgive me." I pleaded showing her my puppy eyes knowing that she will definitely fall for it.

She groaned knowing that she fell for my trap.

" I can't stay mad at you when you make that face." I chuckled giving her a tight hug and kiss on her cheek.

" I love you mama."

" I love you too Lean." She said and kissed my cheek.

I then turned towards my grandma and gave her a tight hug.

" You have grown so big, Lean. You are becoming more and more like Adam each passing day." Grandma said as she caressed my cheek.

" I am offended. I was the one who suffered a horrendous labour to bring him to life for him to only look his father." Mama pouted making us chuckle at her.

" Atleast you have Ari who turned out to be the mini version of you Drea baby." Grandma said.

" Speaking of which where is my granddaughters?" Grandma inquired.

" There are with Kate and Rory." Mama replied.

" Let me go and meet them." With that Grandma left leaving me and mama alone.

" Lean.." Mama's voice break my chain of thoughts.

I gazed at her and she gave a small smile.

" Are you ok, Lean?" She asked in a sweet tone.

" I will be Mama." I said giving her a small smile.

" Lean it's ok to get hurt. That's how we learn what's life. I know that you and Sapphire had a past. But you are here not for her, but for your brother. You are here for Axel. Forget about what you and her had in the past, and move on like she did. She is going to be your sister in law. Show her that you have moved on. "

She caressed my cheek.

" Now go and meet your brother." She gave me a peck on her cheek and left.

Picking up some courage I walked towards where the engaged couple was standing chatting with some guests.

" Congratulations brother." I wished Axel as soon as I reached near them.

Axel and Sapphire was standing beside with their hands linked together. I could spot a huge diamond ring on her left hand ring finger. I smiled sadly eyeing the ring.

Axel has a huge grin on his face as if he have achieved something in his life. I know that he was literally mocking me. Sapphire didn't even spared a glance at me. She was busy gazing Axel with love and adoration in her eyes. The same way she used to look at me.

" Leander, I am so happy to see you here." Axel taunted me. He was always like from childhood, portraying he was better than me.

Then only Sapphire's gaze snapped at me. She then gave a small smile and leaned towards Axel.

" I didn't know you would be coming Leander." Axel said.

" Ofcourse I would be here. Afterall it's my brother's engagement." I smirked at him.

Axel was taken aback by my reply and Sapphire looked hurt.

" Congratulations again, you two deserve each other." With that I went to the exit.

I can't stand here any more minute. Texting a quick bye to my mother, I told her that I am leaving. She asked me the reason and I lied to her that I have an important meeting tomorrow and I have to make preparations for it. She didn't asked me anything further, which I am thankful for.

I thought that after seeing Sapphire, I would go back to my old self. Even though a part got hurt after seeing her together with Axel, I knew that we were both wrong for each other. She seems happy with Axel, which she was never with me and I only wanted her to be happy, with or without me. I realise that I have moved on from her, very long time.

My chain of thoughts were cut off when I heard the sound of heels clicking. I turned around to notice a lady, walking fastly, past a few metres away from me. She looked awfully familiar.

After walking ahead of me few minutes, she slumped on the floor. Her shoulders were shaking vigorously as she cried her heart out. I took reluctant step towards me. As I reached near her, I placed my hand on her shoulder and she visibly shake.

" Ma'am are you alright?" I asked her. She didn't reply to me. Her back was to me and her hair was covering her face so I couldn't get a proper look of it.

I asked the question again, and the second time also I didn't got answer. Frustrated with her, I moved towards her front and kneeled in front of her. I tucked a few strands of her hair so I could get a clear view of her face. But as soon as I did that I instantly regretted it.

The same amber green eyes that I loathed stared back at me in shock.

" You!!!!!.."
