Akaia glided through the air alongside her mother, bow and arrow in hand.

She felt powerful—like death from above—as her sharp eyes scanned the battlefield below for movement.

They were in the midst of a raid on the Sky People. Her father had allowed her to join these missions for the past couple of years, though he still refused to let her fight on the ground, claiming it was too dangerous.

Akaia didn't mind. She preferred the skies anyway—striking from above with precision and grace, just like her mother.

"Akaia." Her mother's voice cut through the wind. Akaia met her eyes.

"Fly over to your brothers. Keep an eye on them from a distance," Neytiri instructed.

With a nod, Akaia banked away and guided her ikran, Sar'zoo, toward Lo'ak and Neteyam.

Her younger brothers had only recently been allowed to join the raids—on the strict condition that they act as lookouts, nothing more. They were to observe and report, not engage.

Akaia loved her brothers deeply, but they were a troublesome pair. Especially Lo'ak, who had a knack for pushing the boundaries.

She sheathed her arrow and slung her bow over her back, adjusting herself on Sar'zoo's back. The bond they shared was unbreakable—they had faced danger together, and she loved him as fiercely as she loved her siblings.

Gunfire rang out below, and Sar'zoo shuddered beneath her. She leaned forward, gently stroking his neck.

"Calm, Sar'zoo. Calm," she whispered, her eyes locking on her brothers in the distance.

She drew closer, keeping her distance as she watched them soar side by side. A soft smile tugged at her lips—she was proud. Bonding with an ikran was no easy feat, yet both her brothers had succeeded.

Suddenly, a violent explosion ripped through the air.

Her eyes snapped to the ground, heart pounding. The battlefield was chaos. She searched the smoke and debris with a frown, silently praying to Eywa for her father's safety.

"Lo'ak, get back here you—"

Her head whipped around. Neteyam was diving after Lo'ak, who was veering off from formation.

"Shit, shit, shit," she cursed, immediately diving after them.

She silently thanked Eywa for blessing her with one of the fastest ikrans in the clan. As the ground rushed up to meet her, she detached her queue and leapt from Sar'zoo before he even touched down.

She rolled to brace her fall, sprang to her feet, and scanned the chaos.

There—Lo'ak, grabbing a gun from a fallen warrior.

She stormed over, snatched it from his hands, and shoved him.

"What the hell were you thinking? Get your ass back on your ikran. Now," she snapped, jabbing a finger at him.

She turned on Neteyam, ready to scold him too, but Lo'ak interrupted.

"But sis, you don't get it—"

"No," she hissed, shoving him toward his ikran with Neteyam trailing. "You're right—I don't get it. I don't get why you keep putting yourself and everyone else in danger just to prove to dad that you're some warrior. You're not. You're fourteen, Lo'ak. You're too young. Now get out of here before dad sees you and kills you himself."

An earsplitting roar made her spin around. An aircraft loomed through the smoke.

"Shit. We need to move—now," she said, stepping in front of her brothers, shielding them as she ushered them away.

The ground shook. A massive explosion blasted behind them, launching all three into the air.

Akaia felt her brothers ripped from her reach.

She slammed into the side of an overturned train carriage, the impact slamming through her body.

Pain bloomed, sharp and immediate. Her vision blurred.

The last thing she heard before darkness took her was the panicked voice of her father calling out her name.
