~The Beginning of the End~
The next couple of days were filled with the same routine. Wake up. Cry in the shower. Go to morning training. Go to evening training with Visha. Eat. Cry. Go to sleep.
Although the tributes were more wary of me since my tussle with Elias, I still continued the act that I had been supposed to play. While playing this role, I was able to gather a rather extensive profile of the other tributes. I knew their strengths and weaknesses, their confidence in the games, and the ones that would most likely go out first.
Training with Visha was the hardest I'd worked in my entire life. I tried to soak up as much information as I could while we were training. With her help in honing my abilities and adding new ones to my arsenal I felt confident that I would be able to stay alive until the time was right.
"Individual assessments are today" Visha stated, sitting down in the chair across from Ace and I. "Rowan you need to do exactly what you've been doing. Score low today and charm the pants off the crowd during your interview. If we want the tributes to underestimate you, you need to find sponsors another way"
I nodded my head, trying to pay attention while also shoving as much food in my mouth as possible. "What should I-" I started, my mouth still full of food, but was interrupted by Ace elbowing me in the side
"If anyone saw you talking with food in your mouth like that, you would have absolutely zero sponsors" He chuckled, a disapproving yet humorous look dancing in his eye.
Shooting him a dirty look, I continued to listen to the step by step instructions Visha laid out about handling this mornings assessment and tonight's interview.
Before I knew it, Ace and I were in the elevator headed to the training room once more. Ace had spent the last few nights watching the picture wall with me until I fell asleep before going to his own room. It seemed like both of us were trying to remember these last few days we had together before everything fell apart.
"This time tomorrow we'll be in the games" I muttered eyes fixed on the ground
The closer it got to the games, the more restless I became. The moments of silence were too quiet. The moments of noise were too loud. My skin felt too tight on my body.
I wasn't ready for this.
I wasn't ready to die.
"Squirt, I know you're scared. But listen, I'll be in there with you the entire time. You won't be alone" He answered
