~My Enemy's Enemy...~

*start song* (replay until end of chapter)

"Oh hell no" My voice rings out in the living room.

Absolutely not. I would rather make flower crowns with the tributes from one or two than ally with Finnick. Visha lets out a sigh and levels an unrelenting stare my way. "I told you. It's not up for debate."

I can practically feel the amusement radiating off the blonde boy beside me. Whirling my head in his direction, I examine the smirk painted on his lips and the challenge dancing in his eyes. "What are you playing at Odair?"

Because I know that my disdain for Finnick was not one-sided, he had to agree to this alliance with an ulterior motive. When he didn't answer I turned back to Visha, "Do you honestly think we can trust him? What if he tries to kill me the second we're in the arena?"

"Tries?" Finnick asks

I don't bother looking at him when I say, "There is no reality that I would let you of all people be the one to kill me."

"Rowen. He is not going to try to kill you. He needs you just as much as you need him."

Scoffing, I lean back on the couch and cross my arms, "I do not need anyone."

"And that" Finnick states, standing up so he now towered over me from where I sat, "-is exactly what is going to get you killed. You may be deadly Sunshine, but so are every single one of those other tributes. If you don't get your ego in check, someone will check it for you."

I knew very well that the other tributes would be nothing like I'd ever faced, but I also knew my strength had only multiplied since my games. No one, not Finnick or even Visha, knew of the hours I spent in that abandoned factory, honing my skills to absolute perfection.

"Why me?" I chose to ask instead of responding to his statement.

Finnick studies me for a moment, seeming to choose his next words carefully. "Keep your friends close and enemies closer, right?"

If that was an attempt to gain my trust in any sense, it failed miserably. From behind me, a door opened. Out of instinct, I rested my hand on the knife sheathed, ready to strike.

"Hello, hello" A man called gruffly.

Visha gave the man a tight-lipped smile in response. "Rowen, this is Finnick's interim mentor, Knox Futaris. All four of us will be working together for the next few days. You two will train with the other tributes in the mornings, but on nights you will train together alone. Leading up to the games you will eat together, plan together, and show the public that you are a united front."

I wanted to tell Visha no. There was no way that I would actually become allies with the man that I have attempted to murder more times than I can count on one hand. But the look I was pinned with, had me shutting my mouth. Visha was my only connection to the sponsors in the games and I did not want to piss her off by fighting. Once I stepped foot in the games, my alliance with Finnick would be over, but for right now it might not hurt to get a good strategy before I kill him.
