~The Dawn of Hope~

The memories of Orion's hands around my throat chased my nightmares throughout the night. The rough texture of the hospital sheets scraped my skin as I tossed and turned in the bed. From beside my cot sat Finnick, who was passed out in a chair.

Earlier Visha told the Golden Boy that he was free to go back to his floor, but Finnick stated he would stay by my side until I was safely within the confines of my floor, which would soon be heavily guarded and Orion-less.

Opening my eyes, I studied Finnick's sleeping form with mild curiosity. He was like a very complicated puzzle. Every time I think I put the pieces together, they magically change shape, making me start from the beginning.

One moment he was calling me a coward and a mutt, and the next he spent the entire night on a hospital chair to ensure my safety. I wondered what face he would wear once we stepped into the arena.

The arena.

In four days' time, that is where we will be. My mind thought about each of the tributes that I'd be forced to murder. Would Finnick be one of them? A picture of my knife entering his throat had me wincing.

There was no doubt in my mind that I would act if he came for me, but what happens if he doesn't? Will I have to be the one who takes that first step?

"You look like you're trying to solve a very complicated math question." Finnick's smooth voice suddenly muttered.

My eyes shot toward him, and no surprise, he looked god-like even after just waking up. I remember even when he was 14 years old during his games, the Capital citizens lusted over him. That poor boy had no idea how Snow would destroy his innocence.

I just shrug, "Can't sleep?"

A sultry laugh escaped his lips, "I haven't had a good night's rest in 10 years."

Nodding my head in agreement, I push myself up, wincing at the dull pain in my ribs. "You can say that again."

"I want to show you something." He suddenly announced, rising to his full height.

I eyed the blonde questionably. I was still on the fence about killing him, let alone allowing him to lead me on excursions with my injured state.

He seemed to notice my hesitation because he crossed his arms. "If I wanted you dead, I wouldn't have saved your life earlier. Now come on Sunshine."

Well, he had a point. "Am I even allowed to leave?" I ask while standing up, thankful Visha brought down my usual sleeping attire of black sweatpants and a long-sleeved shirt.
