"Maybe someone up there will have water," I say, looking at the other end of the bridge.
She nods, slowly.
"Shall we go find out?" I say.
She hesitates. "Are you sure we should? Do you think we'll be safe?"
I look along the bridge. I've been wondering that too, but I don't say so, because I don't see we really have any other choice.
"I'm sure it's fine," I say.
"Are you really?"
"Yeah," I say. "I'm sure."
Lexi doesn't answer.
"Come on," I say. "We have to go and talk to somebody eventually, don't we?"
Lexi hesitates, then says, "Yeah, I suppose we do."
"So let's go," I say. "There's no point standing here waiting, is there?"
She sighs, then nods, and we start walking again.
