The Party.

For @Mepers

You were rushing about. Trying to get everything done that you needed to do. Get a shower, wash your hair, shave, get out, get ready an wear that gorgeous dress that you bought weeks ago, just for tonight.

The dress was a floor length gown, sleek, with a slit that allowed your legs to peep through. It had straps and came almost to your neck, but the back draped, showing off the bare skin.

You had been anticipating tonight for the longest time. Your best friend, Luhan's father had gained great success through his business. As a celebration, he had decided to hold a masquerade ball. You had been invited, along with your half-sister as you had known Luhan for almost all of his life, and you had both been so close. You would spend endless hours with him and almost all of your memories contained him. You could never deny that your heart longed for something more, but he was the type who would constantly mess about with girls. It seemed as if any girl and every girl was enough to please him as he was with someone different every week. You knew that you couldn't be enough for him, and tried settling your heart somewhere else. Yeah, you dated but you always found yourself comparing them to LuHan. No matter how hard you tried, you just couldn't distract yourself from him.

"__________-ah! Are you almost ready?" you heard Sunyeon, your half sister, shout from downstairs.

"Yes, unni! I'm coming now!" You replied, bopping down the stairs while holding your shoes and mask. You sat on the bottom step, slipping on your heels before rushing to the door, where an impatient looking Sunyeon was waiting. She opened the door, gesturing for you to walk out,

"Let's go~~!" she cheered.

The car came to a halt outside the grand hotel that the ball was being held in. You stepped out of the car and allowed yourself to gape at the beautiful sight in front of you. Dark marble, mahogany wood and golden chandeliers blazed in your view, and suddenly you went from feeling completely over dressed, to feeling like you were no where near formal enough to enter this building.

"Here" Sunyeon said, taking your mask and fitting it onto your head. She had already placed the mask on and had been calling to get your attention, trying to tell you to put it on yourself this whole time, but you were too distracted by the view.

She took your hand and began leading you into the building, through the main entrance and into the main ballroom. There was classical music playing while clumps of partners danced together, while more crowds were spreading around the room, all conversing and mingling with the unknown faces behind the masks.

Sunyeon sped off excitedly, recognising what you assumed was her boyfriend as you just tried to fit past people, squeezing through the spaces between their shoulders, trying to get to the table with the food on it.

You remembered reading somewhere that if you ever go to a party of some sort and you don't know anyone, you should go and stand by the food table holding a drink, as it looks most natural and you don't look super out of place. Also, most people there will be alone too and more willing to socialise with a stranger. So that was what you did.

You grabbed a glass and filled it with punch, turning around and taking in the beautiful room. White marbled floors and walls, with large pillars from the ground to the ceiling and large chandeliers made the room appear so expensive that you wouldn't even be able to afford the oxygen you were breathing in.
