CHAPTER THIRTY THREE

They continued on their journey to the hospital, making it to medical tents set up from back when the outbreak first started, Violet had been posted up with Lily in one of them, before being moved to the QZ.
Ellie look around in confusion and spoke quickly,

"Was this a FEDRA thing?"

Violet shook her head, as she found herself in harsh flashbacks of that fateful day, remembering all the grieving people, how scared she was, she was just a kid, with a baby, they tried to take Lily from her and she threatened them with a scalpel.
They never tried after.

"No. Army.
They put these places up all around the first few days after the outbreak. Emergency medical camps. Obviously didn't last."

The state of those camps were broken and whittled seemingly hadn't been used since the beginning, Joel spoke as they walked forward,

"They had me in one just like this."

Ellie questioned,

"With Sarah?"

Joel was surprised that his heart didn't stop like it normally did when someone brought up his beloved daughter, it still hurt, it probably always would but slowly the pain was lessening, Joel spoke quickly, as Violet listened intently,

"No, she was gone already."

Violet asked while they walked forward as she thought how proud she was of him. He was a good man, despite what people said, he was equally susceptible to deprecatory don't get the facts wrong, but he also loved hard, and he knew he wouldn't be able to stomach another loss, similarly to how Violet felt.

"Oh. So what was wrong with you?"

Joel pointed up to the scar on his head, the one he had said he got from someone who shot and missed, Violet thought it would've been further down the line, but maybe it was better it was so soon, there was actually medical care. Joel spoke,

"It was for this."

Ellie looked back in shock, before replying,

"Ah, the guy who shot and missed. I figured that would've happened later."

Joel stopped suddenly and spoke quietly, thinking back to the days after the outbreak, they were hell.
Sarah was gone.
