After bringing Jax to the infirmary, I traversed back to the courtyard, despite Akane glaring daggers into my back. I walked into a failed attempt at setting up a surprise party. I must have beaten Jax before they were done.

However, the cake was still intact, and Jax wasn't dead. That's all that mattered. I tried my best not to be noticed as I ate my red velvet cake. But that was hard seeing as the party was in my honor. People approached and said their "Happy Birthday"s and shit, but no one here was actually relevant. But that changed soon.

The only two important people besides my brother and Jax appeared. But one of them wasn't really a person. Aisu, my familiar, ran up and jumped on top of me, pushing me to the floor and licked my face. In his casual form, he resembled a German Shepherd. However, his longer claws, sharper teeth, reptilian eyes, and monstrous size were reminiscent of his true form.

I hadn't seen Aisu in weeks. But that was because I had sent him with Kira on her mission. Did that mean...?

The girl standing a few yards away confirmed my suspicions. Kira was back. I approached her, but then saw a black pendant around her neck. Shit. It had the black flame symbol on it. I yelled to the room "EVERYBODY GET OUT!"

Kira, who was usually so strong, seemed terrified as everyone left. I slowly moved toward the cursed pendant, but there seemed to be a motion alarm. The symbol began glowing when I got too close. To prevent the explosion, I shot the center pendant and encased it in ice. I was then able to throw it into the air above us.

"GET DOWN" I yelled to the few stragglers in the room. Black energy emanated from the pendant and filled the ice surrounding it, before it exploded. Half a dozen huge black monsters came out of the black vortex the explosion made.

As the last few people left the room, Aisu, who was now mutating into his real form, and I prepared to fight them. Now karma was just being a bitch. I had already fought once today, I didn't feel like beating anyone else into the ground.
