CROWN OF THRONES
[ HARLEM, NY ]

1997. Inhale, Exhale, Inhale, Exhale. Roscoe was lost in thought, with only one phrase repeating in his mind as he sat alone in the school parking lot, watching the cars pass by on the Main Street and smoking a joint. He leaned against the wall, seeking solitude to allow his mind to wander freely.

Roscoe was not the person he appeared to be, despite his reputation for making others happy. He had a kind heart and was always checking on others, but he was also struggling with his own pain and discomfort. Although he was known for entertaining others, he was not truly happy with his current lifestyle. Unfortunately, he found it difficult to break free from this way of life once he had entered it. As an orphan, he had experienced significant challenges in his life, and while he was not living poorly, he sometimes wished that things could be better. This led him to retreat into himself, getting high and contemplating his situation.

As he heard footsteps approaching him from behind, he didn't give it much thought because he assumed it was Juan, who had been absent from school that morning and had not responded to any of his calls. "Been lookin' for yo ass everywhere." Roscoe heard a voice while he was sitting, and upon looking, he saw that it belonged to Malik who was accompanied by Tjay. They sat on either side of Roscoe, making him the center of the group. "Guess Casper ain't dead after all." Roscoe's demeanor was devoid of any emotions as he spoke, his gaze fixed ahead. It had been several days since anyone had heard from him, prompting curiosity about what he had been up to. However, the influence of marijuana had left him feeling laidback and nonchalant.

"Nah needed to clear my mind, realized I was acting like a bitch and I owe you and Juan an apology but this nigga nowhere to be found." Malik gave an explanation for his recent distance which turned out to be genuine. He required some time to process his thoughts and clear his mind. Additionally, Tjay, a fellow classmate, was assisting him in selling drugs to make some cash. Although he did not replace Roscoe and Juan, Tjay was involved in the drug trade, and Malik was his supplier. However, Tjay's involvement was not as extensive as Roscoe and Juan's, as he was only interested in making some extra money. "Heard you." Roscoe uttered in a parched manner as he handed the joint over to Malik. Malik accepted it and proceeded to relight it using the lighter that was conveniently placed beside Roscoe. Meanwhile, Roscoe turned his head to exchange a quick dap up with Tjay. Roscoe didn't have much to say to Malik, despite his occasional stubbornness. They still considered each other brothers, and this wasn't the first time they had faced conflict. Ultimately, they knew they would always find their way back to each other.
