A crack of thunder is heard from outside. A storm is coming. "Rei, here." Kazuki hands something over to me. A flash bang? Where did he get this from? I didn't have any. "Get ready." I signal at him to get ready. "Don't make this any harder than it has to be. Shigeki just wants to have a word with you both." The voice gets closer. "Rei, cut the lights." Kazuki whispers pointing at the breaker box next to me." I nodded at him and flipped the switches till the apartment was shrouded in darkness. the only light getting in is the dimness of the sky in the living room. The heavy clouds make it near impossible to see much. I'm pretty well adapted to low light conditions, that's something that has always set me apart from the others from the organization. This will be easy. The men are on their guard, guns drawn. "Get down." I pull the pin on the flash bang and toss it towards. "Watch out!" one of them yell. They all scramble but were unable to escape the blinding flash of the explosion "The neighbors are probably going to call the police." Kazuki mentioned. "That's the least of our problems right now." I aim my gun and take a shot at one of the men standing directly at the bottom of the staircase. The bullet makes direct impact with his chest knocking him straight to the floor. The other four were alerted by the gun shots and begin firing towards us. There really is no going back now. My father sent people after us and I shot one of them. Damn it all. Kazuki and I continue to trade fire shots while trying to keep ourselves from getting hit. It's only a matter of time before police show up, we need to finish this up quickly. "I have an idea. Cover me." I wait till there's a pause in fire as they reload their weapons to dart down the stairs before they could notice me, meanwhile Kazuki remained where he was firing in their direction to keep them from peaking up. This is like that dream I had. Not exactly, but it's coincidence that instills a fear in me. He won't die. Not while I'm around. I'm thankful Miri had daycare today. I sneak around with my knife out hunting for another target in the dark. I see one. All alone in a corner. Almost too perfect. He's behind the other three too, I can get him without being detected. With all the training I had growing up, I know how to move in a way that you make your movements completely silent. I take out my knife and begin closing in on the man from behind. Just as I thought. Undetected. "I'm hit!" Another voice yelps in pain as Kazuki lands a shot into their leg. I use that moment of distraction to plunge the knife into the back of this guy's neck while I use my other arm to cover up his mouth to quiet down the sounds of his struggles. Three more to go. "Rei, your dad isn't going to be very happy with you when he hears what you and your friend did to his men. You know very well what happens when he gets upset." The stranger taunts me with my childhood memories. A loud thud and a groan comes from somewhere in the room. Another hit for Kazuki. He's doing a lot better than usual with a gun. "Kaito-san, sirens!" Right on time, the sounds of police sirens fill the air. "We'll be back!" They yelled before they ran off out of the apartment. I have to go back to Kazuki. At least two of them are dead and the third is either also dead or simply incapacitated. I return to where I left him and saw that he applying pressure to his left calf. "I got shot, luckily the bullet went straight through." All we can do is wait for the police to come up here since Kazuki is injured from the fight. I flip the breaker switch back on so we could see the wound better, just like he said, it went straight through. "You're covered in blood, that's not yours is it?" I couldn't tell that I looked like I'd been painted red. "No." I remove my jacket and used a non-bloody part to wipe of any blood that might be on my face. "We'll be okay, Rei." He reached his arm out to bring me closer. "We survived" he brings my face to his and kisses me. "The cops are here. It's your turn to be in the hospital now." More footsteps enter the apartment from several people coming in. "This is the police, is there anyone still in here?" A woman officer asks aloud. "Up here!" Kazuki yelled back in response. We see the cops head up the stairs to us. "We were attacked, those people you saw down there broke in, there were more but they escaped before you got here." I'll leave him to do most of the talking .
Kazuki was taken by emergency services to be treated and I ended up having to be grilled by the cops for what seemed like ages. I didn't want want to, but I had to entrust Kyutaro to get Miri from daycare today since I was busy. They didn't ask about the weapon we had possession of oddly enough and neither of us are in any trouble after the crime scene was fully investigated. We acted in self defense.
