The front desk knew who I was and automatically gave me my dad's room number. I walked throughout the hospital as fast as I could without it being counted as running. Ashley was right beside me. After calming me down she drove me up here. It was a good forty five minute drive from our property to the hospital and I was a nervous wreck the whole way. As I turned down the hall which his room was located I saw two large men guarding the door.
They looked at me and moved to the side. Ashley stopped at the door as well. I stopped to look back at her. "Aren't you coming?" I asked.
"I figured you wanted to talk to him alone. Go on, I'll stay right here." Nodding I entered the room.
"Hey dad." I spoke softly. I watched his still figure lay there. His eyes were closed and he looked peaceful. The covers covered his lower half while his chest was on view. Patches of gauze and bandages covered his torso. His left arm also had a bandage on a larger part of it. I walked around the bed and sat in the chair closest to his head. Looking at him guilt began to eat at me. "Dad, I stole the files from you the other night. I was nosy and went through them." I began to cry.
"I'm sorry, I really am. But everything has been so crazy and then the files made no sense so I dug deeper. I know all about the werewolves. Well, not all about them but I know about them. I really like the Archers." I sighed and wiped my face dry. "Sterling Archer. The guy I'm going to go on a date with. He's great." I smiled but caught myself and quickly looked away. "I'm sorry for lying to you." I looked to my broken father again. Gently I took his hand in my own. "I won't ever go through your files again." I thought over my words and chuckled. "Okay, that's probably not true." I looked down at his hand and lightly caressed it.
"You're too noisy not too." A small chuckle sounded. I looked up to see my father smiling.
"Yeah," I smiled. "How are you doing? What do you remember?"
"Uh, I remember being attacked by a bear." He chuckled sadly. I frowned. Should I tell him everything like I just did or keep it to myself? Sighing I released his hand.
"Dad you're going to be very mad at me. You now know I stole your files but I also-"
"I think Sterling is good for you."
"-know about the werewolves, so you don't have to-" I stopped and looked at him. "You were awake?" I asked. He chuckled and nodded.
"Yeah kid, I only said the bear thing to see if you'd tell me when I was conscious." I smiled and got up to lightly hug him.
"I was so scared!" I pulled back and sat back down. "How bad is it?" I pointed to his bandaged chest.
"It was a mess." He sighed. "Doctor Lynn sewed me up real good." Seeing the worry on my face he took my hand. "Kid, don't worry about me. This isn't the first time this has happened." My jaw dropped.
"What do you mean?" I asked shocked. "You're telling me that you've been mangled by a werewolf before and you've never told me? I've never even seen you bleed, unless you count that one time you nearly sliced your finger off, but that's besides the point. Why would you keep all this from me and how dare you lie to me!" I said getting frustrated.
"Hey don't even, Ms. I'm going to date a werewolf and not tell my father and Ms. I'm going to steal private legal files and read them!" He countered. He too looked frustrated. I went to open my mouth but stopped then opened it again.
"Okay you got me there but I've only been hiding this for a week, you've been doing it all my life!" I said standing up and crossing my arms over my chest. The real anger was about to show up. "Why didn't you tell me about this whole other world? It's a bit dangerous I understand that, but it's different, it's beautiful."
