Meanwhile, back at the camp Wu Sanxing was feeling extremely guilty. After Wu Xie's parents died in a car accident when the poor boy was only 5 years old, no one wanted to take him in. All he heard were complaints and one relative even went as far as blaming Wu Xie for his parents' death saying, "If it weren't for this stupid brat insisting on coming home early, they never would have rushed back. Talk about being a bad luck charm."
Wu Xie might have been a mere child with zero knowledge back then, yet those words always stayed in his mind and he grew up believing he was the real reason his parents were no longer with him.
Despite everyone being persistent on sending Wu Xie to an orphanage, Wu Sanxing welcomed the still innocent and sweet kid with open arms. He played with Wu Xie, teaching the child how to be a better person. Yes, they had their daily quarrels here and there, but which family doesn't?
They are inseparable. Wu Xie loves his uncle and the old man is ready to kill for his nephew. He knows how delicate Wu Xie is so he wants the naive kid to stay away from expeditions as he himself was on the verge of death on a particular mission.
"I shouldn't have said that..." Wu Sanxing mumbled and Xiao Hua placed a comforting hand on the man's back.
"Its okay uncle. You didn't mean to hurt him, just worried thats all I'm sure Wu Xie understands that." Xiao Hua said softly as the man nodded.
"I do." Wu Xie said as he overheard the conversation. "I am sorry I came here without saying anything but I really want to help. I know might not be of much help since its my first time, but how will I learn without an attempt? I also know you want to keep me safe uncle, but you can't protect me forever and I'll have to face problems myself too. And in order to do that, I need experience which I'll get from being with you, out in the wild. Please don't send me back." Wu Xie pleaded, not with a desperate voice as confidence laced every word he spoke leaving Wu Sanxing in shock. Since when did Wu Xie become this assuring?
"Fine okay, you can stay here. But I can't believe you came alone." Wu Sanxing said and Wu Xie gulped.
"About that....."
******************************
"SAY WHAT?!" Wu Sanxing couldn't believe what Wu Xie was saying. Pangzi disappeared without a word?
"I am sorry, I am the one who dragged him here." Wu Xie apologized and Wu Sanxing's eyes softened.
"Its okay, I told you, we'll find him." Zhang Qiling said from the other side of the tent. Wu Xie didn't know why, but he felt completely reassured when Zhang spoke up. The hooded man may seem shrouded in a thick blanket of mystery, but he had an aura of responsibilty around him as well that made him really dependable.
"Yeah, you did." Wu Xie nodded with a soft smile. "Where are we supposed to go?" He asked turning to Sanxing and the old man sunk into deep thought.
"Its too late to make a move since it is already dark now, so we'll camp here tonight. Do you have a tent?" Sanxing asked and Wu Xie's eyed widened in realization.
"THE TENTS AND SLEEPING BAGS WERE WITH PANGZI!" He exclaimed and Sanxing face-palmed. So much for being assuring.
"You can borrow am extra sleeping bag I have, but that's all. You'll have to find another tent to stay in." Xiao Hua said and Wu Xie pouted.
At least I won't have to sleep on the ground. Now to find a tent. Uncle and Pan Xi are already sharing the tent so that's out of question. Xiao Hua laid clear boundaries, I don't trust that Shades guy and I can't ask a girl to share a tent with me. I don't have a thing for that ruthless lay named Ah Ning, but she is highly unpredictable plus people will get the wrong idea. So that leaves.....
"Hey Xiaoge? Can I.....share the tent with you? Considering all my options, you are the best one I have. Please?" Wu Xie asked, his doe eyes unintentionally went a bit wide, giving the perfect puppy-dog eyes.
Wu Xie you-" Pan Zi began as he knew Zhang was a little too distant to agree to such a request but he was cut off mid-sentence by Zhang himself.
"Okay, you can."
Actually, Zhang wanted to refuse but one look at Wu Xie's face and he couldn't find it in himself to reject the request.
So, as planned, after everyone ate the canned 'Bell Pepper Fried Rice' that Shades brought (which Xiao Hua flatly refused to eat as he hated bell peppers) everyone scurried off to their own tents.
"Hua'er, next time I'll get you the fried rice without the bell pepper." Shades said as the latter only rolled his eyes.
As if anyone would remember such a tiny detail.
Wu Xie followed Zhang in silence as the hooded man guided him to the tent. Zhang kept sneaking glances of the beautiful fellow behind him. He noticed how his doe eyes were slightly wide and brows subtly knit together as he followed him quietly. He looked deep in thought but Zhang didn't question it.
He looks like a puppy. Zhang thought and smirked a little.
Wu Xie was indeed thinking of something. Pangzi. He wad worried for his bestie and wasn't paying attention to the trail ahead of him, tripping over a branch. He braced himself for the fall but instead of the hard ground felt strong arms around him.
"Careful." Was the only thing Zhang said as he helped Wu Xie straighten up and continued to walk ahead, only this time, he held the latter's hand to make sure he doesn't hurt himself.
"Thanks Xiaoge." Wu Xie thanked as his gaze trailed down to their intertwined hands. He felt a slight blush rise up to his cheeks as he kept following the stoic male.
"Stay here, I'll set up the sleeping bags." Zhang instructed and Wu Xie complied. He noticed how the tent was smaller than the others.
After a few minutes, Zhang's head poked out of the tent as he ushered Wu Xie to enter.
The sleeping bags are too close!
Wu Xie was stunned to see the bags completely stuck to one another. He knew Zhang didn't do it on purpose as the place was too small and cramped to place the bags at a distance.
"Uncomfortable?" Zhang asked in a low voice carefully examining the expression of the younger male.
"N-no...It's fine." Wu Xie answered in a small voice. He was just too flustered to sleep next to someone as attractive as Zhang. They settled down in their respective sleeping bags, Zhang laid completely straight, almost as if in attention position and Wu Xie laid on his side, facing Zhang.
Zhang fell asleep rather quickly as he was tired from how hectic the day had been thanks to the bespectacled male beside him. On the hand, Wu Xie was too nervous to slip into dreamland. He kept his gaze locked on Zhang, the latter's face looked soft and innocent, unlike his usual stone cold look.
"He is really handsome.....Wu Xie, stop being a pervert and sleep!" He whispered to himself.
Wu Xie turned to face the other side and tried to think of anything other than Zhang Qiling. After a few minutes, exhaustion finally caught on to him and he drifted off to sleep.
Little did the innocent male know that Zhang was awake the entire time and heard the little compliment he recieved, biting his tongue to hold back a small smile that was itching to show on his face.
