After about an hour of walking, we arrived at our destination.

"You've been told all our people's stories, but one," we had gone past the village and were halfway up one of the mountains. Grandma was tired, I could tell. So whatever this thing was that she wanted to show me, must've been important.

"What is this place?" She guided me to a wall of vines, pulling them back with her cane to reveal what used to be a cave entrance, but was now blocked off.

"Do you really think our ancestors stayed within the reef?" my jaw dropped. How come I've never noticed this? You'd think you'd know everything about the place you've lived in your whole entire life, wouldn't you?

I started to work my way through the large stones, gasping when they suddenly caved in. A cold wind rushed past me, sending shivers down my spine; soft howls blowing through the entrance.

"ooOooOOOOooO!" rubbing her hands together, giggling in excitement.

"Really, Gramma?" I laughed at the childlike wonder in her eyes. It's not something you see everyday; an eighty seven year old acting like she's five. Another howl caught my attention. "What's in there?" I became serious again.

"The answer to the question you keep asking yourself," she pointed at me. Hm. Very helpful Grandma. Very helpful. "Who are you meant to be?" she gestured for me to walk in after giving me a couple of instructions.

"Go inside," I followed the plant life lighting up the cracks and crevices of the ancient cave. "Bang the drum, and find out."

Turning a sharp corner, I sucked in a breath at what I saw: huge boats, canoes, much bigger than any of the ones down at the dock. A waterfall flowed behind them, framing them, also lighting up their features. Intricate details, carvings, all embedded into the sides of them and designs printed onto the huge sails.
