Neteyam confuses me. Like to an abnormal amount.

"So are you gonna keep staring at me, or are you gonna help me find a way out of here?" my eyes quickly adjusted to the dark lighting as I stumbled to keep up with him. He almost immediately started exploring the cave, looking for another way out.

"What did you see in that vision," I stated bluntly. It has to be connected to all of this, to Maui; why else would he go to the effort of following me out into the vast ocean?

Neteyam suddenly stopped and stiffened, I couldn't tell whether it was from my question or the humongous statue of the demigod himself that was in front of us.

"Well, someone's narcissistic," he mumbled, however our line of sight was quickly directed to the sliver of light, shining through a crack on the ceiling. He whipped around to me, gently grabbing me by the shoulders. "Listen, I promise I will tell you everything when the time is right, but for now I need you to trust me," his eyes were serious and hopeful, they shone brightly in the dark cave along with his freckles that delicately sprinkled his face.

"So your vision is connected to Maui," I frowned, could he not trust me? Surely the vision wouldn't change our actions that drastically, right?

He gazed at the floor, averting my eyes, his silence translated to a yes.

"So long as you're safe throughout this whole thing," I sprinted towards the makeshift ladder propped up on the statue. "I will be satisfied," I beamed back at him, which he returned with a grateful smile and a slight blush.

Soon enough we both made it to the top of Maui's head, I knew right away I wouldn't be able to jump the height to the opening.

"Let me go first," oh. I forgot Neteyam was from the forest, this jump was probably nothing to him. He skillfully hopped from the tip of Maui's nose and grabbed onto the edge of the opening then swung himself up onto the surface, disappearing from my view. After a couple of seconds I thought he left me, but his head popped down to give me instructions.
