"I am Kātao of..."
"I have the slightest feeling... that you may be angry with me," Neteyam spoke over me, swaying from side to side on the uneasy canoe as I yet again, struggled to keep it going in the direction of the starry fish hook.
"You will board my boat..."
"Yeah... I think I might puke," the waves getting more and more rough. I huffed in annoyance.
"Neteyam, as much as I absolutely adore your presence," I rolled my eyes, glaring at the forest boy before me. "What are you doing here?"
He opened his mouth to say something but decided against it, tilting his head in thought.
"Well?" his ilu had long since swam away to goodness knows where, leaving me stranded in the middle of a stormy ocean with him.
"Um..." he scratched his head nervously. "You'd laugh if I told you," he shook his head, looking everywhere but me. I raised a brow at him, smirking.
"What? You dreaming of me or something?" I scoffed.
"N-NO!"
"Sure ya little simp," I rolled my eyes. "Why did you let the ilu go anyway? You should have gone back home, I need to do this myself."
"Wow, harsh much," he mumbled a slight blush on his face. An awkward silence fell between us.

"I am Kātao... of the Metkayiii..." I felt my eyes begin to droop from lack of sleep in the last forty eight hours; Neteyam's still body, peacefully asleep on the far end of the canoe.
I'll close my eyes just for a few seconds... it didn't even last that long.
A slap of cold water hit my shoulder.
"BOARD MY BOAT!" I jolted awake, Neteyam jumping up to the sudden shout.
"Bro, really? Was that necessary?" he whined, belly flopping once more unto the wooden floor boards when realising nothing was wrong.
"Oof, that looked painful. You're gonna have splinters in your chest," I teased back. He mumbled a response, his face buried into his arms, making it inaudible. Not that I really cared as I realisation hit me.
"Oh no... Ughhhhh," I groaned looking at the sky for the fish hook, only to find it directly behind me. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"What- oh," he deadpanned. "Because I wanted us to fail," I looked at him weirdly. "I was asleep skxawng, obviously I didn't know!" he rolled his eyes, sarcasm dripping off his voice.
"Wow someones not a morning person," I grunted as I concentrated on trying to turn the boat.
"In case you haven't noticed, it's still night. The time when normal- what are you doing?!"
"Nah! No, no, no!" I had overestimated how much I needed to turn the oar and now the boat was tipping over. We both clambered to the outrigger float in attempt to balance it but was led to no avail. We were forced into the cold ocean, waking us up completely.
I burst out, grabbing hold of the outrigger float, seeing all of my belongings floating around me.
"Neteyam! Neteyam-" He suddenly emerged from the water, flopping onto the main part of the upside down canoe.
"I'm fine, water girl," he panted, smirking. "I didn't think you'd be so worried about me." I refused to acknowledge his last comment, instead grabbing my oar.
"Uuuh, Ara? Can I get a little help?" I asked hesitantly. Ara was a free spirit, she cannot be called upon... but I was kinda hoping since she chose me and all I might have a few privileges?
Thunder clapped behind me, lightning illuminating the night sky. Welp. guess no privileges for little ol' me.
"Mhm, great help there," Neteyam was now beside me, panically trying to push the boat upright with me. The storm was approaching us at an alarming speed, the waves becoming choppy and rough.
"No, no, please," I gasped, water overlapping my face. "Come on!" I shouted when the boat wasn't cooperating.
"Kātao, hold on tight!" Neteyam shouted over the roaring waves and thunder. Rain was battering us down along with the ocean tossing us around like a mixing bowl.
"HELP US!" I screamed, clinging onto the outrigger float and Neteyam's arm. "PLEASE ARAMOANA!" I begged between being lifted up and down out of the water.
"KĀTAO!" the last thing I remember is Neteyam reaching out to me before I blacked out.
